Magnetic Skyrmionic Polarons [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2017
We study a two-dimensional electron gas exchanged-coupled to a system of classical magnetic ions. For large Rashba spin-orbit coupling a single electron can become self-trapped in a skyrmion spin texture self-induced in the magnetic ions system. This new quasiparticle carries electrical and topological charge as well as a large spin, and we named it as

Current Switching of Topological Spin Chirality in the van der Waals Antiferromagnet Co1/3TaS2

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spin chirality plays a central role in quantum magnetism, governing spin winding and generating real‐space Berry phases. We propose the intriguing concept of current‐switching spin chirality and demonstrate it via unconventional intrinsic self‐spin‐orbit‐torque in pristine Co1/3TaS2, purely by electrical current and with high energy efficiency.

Field-free deterministic ultra fast creation of skyrmions by spin orbit torques

open access: yes, 2017
Magnetic skyrmions are currently the most promising option to realize current-driven magnetic shift registers. A variety of concepts to create skyrmions were proposed and demonstrated. However, none of the reported experiments show controlled creation of

Electric‐Current‐Assisted Nucleation of Zero‐Field Hopfion Rings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports a novel and efficient nucleation protocol for 3D localized topological magnetic solitons‐hopfion rings in chiral magnets using pulsed electric currents. By using Lorentz transmission electron microscopy and topological analysis, we report characteristic features and extraordinary stability of hopfion rings in zero or inverted external

Intrinsic DMI-free skyrmion formation and robust dynamic behaviors in magnetic hemispherical shells

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
We performed finite-element micromagnetic simulations to examine the formation of skyrmions without intrinsic Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction (DMI) in magnetic hemispherical shells. We found that curvature-induced DM-like interaction allows for further

Tailed skyrmions—An obscure branch of magnetic solitons

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
We report tailed skyrmions—a new class of stable soliton solutions of the 2D chiral magnet model. Tailed skyrmions have elongated shapes and emerge in a narrow range of fields near the transition between the spin spirals and the saturated state.

Formation and stability of metastable skyrmionic spin structures with various topologies in an ultrathin film [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We observe metastable localized spin configurations with topological charges ranging from $Q=-3$ to $Q=2$ in a (Pt$_{0.95}$Ir$_{0.05}$)/Fe bilayer on Pd$(111)$ surface by performing spin dynamics simulations, using a classical Hamiltonian parametrized by

Resonant Domain Wall Dynamics in a Three‐Dimensional Magnetic Nano Double Helix

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
3D magnetic nanostructures promise exciting possibilities for magnetization dynamics. However, experimental realizations remain scarce. In nanoprinted cobalt double helices, time‐resolved X‐ray microscopy reveals harmonic domain wall dynamics. Simulations identify the mode and additional higher‐frequency resonances, revealing a rich dynamic landscape ...

Manipulation of skyrmion motion by magnetic field gradients

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Manipulation of skyrmions is one of the keys to achieving the skyrmion based spintronic devices. Here the authors show the skyrmions in Cu2OSeO3 can be rotated collectively with fixed velocity–radius relationship under a static magnetic field gradient ...

Stability of axisymmetric chiral skyrmions

open access: yes, 2017
We examine topological solitons in a minimal variational model for a chiral magnet, so-called chiral skyrmions. In the regime of large background fields, we prove linear stability of axisymmetric chiral skyrmions under arbitrary perturbations in the ...
