Uncovering and quantifying the subduction zone sulfur cycle from the slab perspective

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Sulfur belongs among H2O, CO2, and Cl as one of the key volatiles in Earth’s chemical cycles. High oxygen fugacity, sulfur concentration, and δ34S values in volcanic arc rocks have been attributed to significant sulfate addition by slab fluids.

Automatic pixel‐level crack detection with multi‐scale feature fusion for slab tracks

Comput. Aided Civ. Infrastructure Eng., 2023
Cracks are common defects in slab tracks, which can grow and expand over time, leading to a deterioration of the mechanical properties of slab tracks and shortening service life.

Slab Transport of Fluids to Deep Focus Earthquake Depths—Thermal Modeling Constraints and Evidence From Diamonds

AGU Advances, 2021
The nature and cause of deep earthquakes remain enduring unknowns in the field of seismology. We present new models of thermal structures of subducted slabs traced to mantle transition zone depths that permit a detailed comparison between slab pressure ...

Molybdenum systematics of subducted crust record reactive fluid flow from underlying slab serpentine dehydration

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Fluids liberated from subducting slabs are critical in global geochemical cycles. We investigate the behaviour of Mo during slab dehydration using two suites of exhumed fragments of subducted, oceanic lithosphere.
