Suppression of material transfer at contacting surfaces: The effect of adsorbates on Al/TiN and Cu/diamond interfaces from first-principles calculations

open access: yes, 2017
The effect of monolayers of oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H) on the possibility of material transfer at aluminium/titanium nitride (Al/TiN) and copper/diamond (Cu/C$_{\text{dia}}$) interfaces, respectively, were investigated within the framework of density ...

Engineering Unequal Antipolar Displacement in Ferromagnetic Layered Oxide Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically precise superlattices of the double perovskites La2NiMnO6 and Sm2NiMnO6 are grown to engineer an unequal antipolar displacement of the La and Sm ions. These structural motifs are confirmed by the scanning transmission electron microscopy and first‐principles calculations.

Prediction of longitudinal shear resistance of composite slabs with profile sheeting to Eurocode 4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Composite slab incorporate profile sheeting is widely used for multi-storey buildings construction throughout the world. The profile sheeting not only providing the temporarily support to the wet concrete but also formed an integral part of the composite

Gapless Superconductivity From Extremely Dilute Magnetic Disorder in 2H‐NbSe2‐xSx

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that 2H‐NbSe2‐xSx hosts gapless superconductivity at unexpectedly low magnetic impurity concentrations. Combining STM, Bogoliubovde Gennes simulations, DFT, and quasiparticle interference, we comprehensively study the development of gapless behavior and show that SeS substitution reshapes the band structure, enhances nesting, and drives ...

Surface Reordering During Layer‐by‐Layer Growth on SrTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Surface structures (left) derived from DFT‐constrained fitting to crystal truncation rods measured by synchrotron X‐ray scattering (right) after each monolayer of deposition during the MBE growth of SrTiO3${\rm SrTiO}_{3}$ (001). The bottom panel shows the bare substrate, the middle panel shows island formation upon deposition of a single layer of SrO,

Structural Response of a Two-Side-Supported Square Slab Under Varying Blast Positions from Center to Free Edge and Beyond in a Touch-Off Explosion Scenario

open access: yesBuildings
A touch-off explosion on concrete slabs is considered one of the simplest yet most destructive forms of adversarial loading on building elements. It causes far greater damage than explosions occurring at a distance.

Waveguiding power of photonic crystal slabs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We consider the waveguiding by thin patterned slabs embedded in a homogeneous medium. In the longwave limit, the wave spectra of slabs are found to be well described by a single frequency-independent parameter, which we call the "guiding power".

Decoding High‐voltage LiCoO2: From Degradation to Stabilization Toward Durable Li‐ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically addresses the degradation mechanisms and stabilization strategies for high‐voltage LiCoO2 cathodes. Key enhancement approaches including foreign‐ion doping, surface modifications, structural design, and electrolyte optimization are critically assessed.

Behavior of one-way steel, BFRP, and GFRP reinforced concrete slabs under monotonic and cyclic loadings: Experiments and analyses

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
This paper experimentally investigated the monotonic and cyclic behaviour of one-way basalt and glass fibre-reinforced polymers (BFRP and GFRP) reinforced concrete (RC) slabs compared with that of traditional steel RC ones.

Self‐Regulating Sodium‐Ion Battery Materials: From Phase Reconstruction to Functional Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐regulating sodium‐ion batteries hinge on programmable phase behavior in layered oxides, interphases that renew without growth, and electrolytes that steer solvation and chemistry. This review distills mechanisms into design rules that span composition, site and entropy tuning, and self‐buffering anodes, linking operando evidence to choices and ...
