The potential of mining slag as a substrate for microbial growth and the microbiological analysis of slag and slag seepage

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1997
The potential of a Cu/Ni mining slag to act as a substrate for the growth of the bacteria Thiobacillus ferrooxidans, Thiobacillus thiooxidants, and Thiobacillus thioparus was examined. As well, slag and slag seepage samples were screened for the presence of the Thiobacillus species.

The influence of steel slag and ferronickel slag on the properties of alkali-activated slag mortar

Construction and Building Materials, 2019
Abstract With the continuous development of industry, a huge amount of industrial wastes have been produced and caused severe environmental problems. In order to reduce the issue caused by industrial waste, in this investigation, 50 wt% ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) replaced by steel slag (SS) or ferronickel slag (FNS) was used to ...

Effect of Ladle Slag Modification on Slag Sticking to Snorkel and Rate of Slag Erosion

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
To reduce the slag sticking to snorkel and to increase the operation life of snorkel during ladle alloying process, B2O3-CaO (mass ratio 1:2) and CaF2-CaO(mass ratio 1:2) were respectively employed as modifiers added to ladle slag. The effects of modifier on weight of sticking slag and erosion rate were investigated.

Slag and hot-slag resistance of basic refractories

Refractories, 1968
Using the instrument described, which has been improved in design for testing refractory materials for slag and hot slag resistance, we investigated the properties of magnesite, magnesite-chromite, and chrome-magnesite specimens. It was established that their life is determined by the resistance of the refractory bond.

Slag-Refractory Interaction in Slagging Coal Gasifiers

Materials Science Forum, 2008
The combustion chamber of slagging coal gasifiers is lined with refractories to protect the steel shell of the gasifier from elevated temperatures and corrosive attack of the coal slag. Refractories composed primarily of Cr2O3 have been found most resistant to slag corrosion, but they continue to fail performance requirements.

Consolidation of simulated slagging-pyrolysis-incinerator slags

Nuclear and Chemical Waste Management, 1983
Abstract The methods of arc melting and inclusion in concrete were used to consolidate slagging-pyrolysis-inciner (SPI) slags. The SPI is a wet-bottom, modified vertical-shaft furnace being considered for processing low-level radioactive wastes into granulated slag and metal.

The Influence of Steel Slag on Phosphorous Slag Cement

Key Engineering Materials, 2012
In this paper, the influence of steel slag and its pretreatment method on properties of phosphorus slag cement has been studied. The hydration process and microstructure were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM).

Slag Viscosity Model

2014
In this chapter, the reader will find details about the formalisms of the most utilized Gibbs energy models used in thermodynamic computer models. The emphasis is put on models used in iron- and steelmaking areas. The previous chapter is devoted to the presentation of the main features of the thermodynamic computer packages.

SLAGGING COAL GASIFIERS: MODELLING OF THE MECHANISMS OF PARTICLES-SLAG INTERACTION [PDF]

open access: possible, 2013
In pilot entrained-flow slagging gasifiers, high conversion efficiency and low level of pollutant emissions have been observed, but the mechanism leading to this behavior is not fully understood, limiting the capability to scale up their design. In this paper, after a review of the principal mechanisms and modelling approaches already proposed, a new ...

Processing of copper slags on the basis of electro-slag and arc-slag refinings

2014
Results of the experimental melts, confirming the extraction of copper from slag, lump and dusty wastes of copper melting production in application of processes of arc and electroslag melting are given. The percentage of copper extraction, reaching 97.9% and its content in ingot – 93…99.6 %, is shown.
