Petrographic Study of Welding Slags

Russian Metallurgy (Metally), 2020
The results of petrographic studies of the welding slags of electrodes UONI-13/55, Philips 27P, OZS-4, and VSTs-4 are presented. These electrodes are found to form welding slags having various phase compositions and morphologies. The phase compositions of the slags are shown to affect the physical properties of their melts, in particular, viscosity ...

Microstructure of the Acid Welding Slag

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Several E4303 type welding electrodes with different coating compositions were designed and manufactured using TL-25 welding electrode extrusion press. Welding slags of these electrodes were collected after welding on the low carbon steel, then the microstructure and the phase constitutes of the slags were investigated by optical microscope, scan ...

Fatigue Behavior of Butt Welds with Slag Inclusions

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1984
The results of an experimental study on the fatigue behavior of transverse welded steel butt joints containing slag inclusion discontinuities are presented. Twenty‐four constant amplitude zero‐to‐tension fatigue tests were conducted. The 5 in. (127 mm) wide by 1 in.

Corrosion of Furnace Tubes By Residual Welding Slag [PDF]

open access: possibleCORROSION, 1960
Abstract Describes case history of severe and rapid corrosion of hydrogen reforming furnace tubes during high temperature operation. Attack was caused by presence of residual welding slag, sulfur and reducing conditions. Welding slag played a primary role in this corrosion.

Modelling of Slag Produced in Submerged Arc Welding

2020
This study has been conducted to reveal the effects of flux composition on slag produced and wire consumption. RSM was used for designing the experiments. Mathematical modeling was done for the output in terms of flux composition. The study reveals that the slag produced is dependent upon the basicity index of the flux and CaF2 used as a flux ...

Slag-metal equilibrium during submerged arc welding

Metallurgical Transactions B, 1981
A thermodynamic model of the equilibria existing between the slag and the weld metal during submerged arc welding is presented. As formulated, the model applies only to fused neutral fluxes containing less than 20 pct CaF2, however some results indicate that the model may be useful in more general cases as well.
