A mathematical description of thermal stress in wet slaking is proposed. Calculations show that deeper cracks are formed in the coke layers directly exposed to the water supply than in lower layers. In large coke pieces, the crack depth may be a quarter of the radius. Water supply from below increases the number of pieces with deep cracks.
