Improving the Jar Slake, Slake Index, and Slake Durability Tests for Shales
Environmental & Engineering Geoscience, 1998This study proposes modifications to three shale durability tests to improve reproducibility, reduce the level of effort required, and better correlate the test to actual slaking characteristics. Modifications to the jar slake test reduced test variability by one-third, offering a substantial improvement in consistency, with only a slight loss in the ...

Slaking and deformation behaviour
Géotechnique, 2016Slaking is a mechanical–hydraulic process in which geomaterials disintegrate or crumble when subjected to wetting and drying cycles; mudstone is particularly susceptible to this process. This paper explores the slaking behaviour of geomaterials derived from several kinds of mudstone and the mechanical consequences using a comprehensive set of ...

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1972
Abstract A test is described that measures the resistance of a rock sample to weakening and disintegration resulting from a standard cycle of drying and wetting. The main purpose of this ‘slake-durability test’ is to evaluate the weathering resistance of shales, mudstones, siltstones and other clay-bearing rocks.

SLAKING PROPERTIES OF SHALE ROCK IN THE IZUMI GROUP AND THE SLAKING MECHANISM

Coke and Chemistry, 2012
A method of simultaneous coke cooling and classification is described. The method consists of two stages: (1) dry cooling from about 1000 to 650°C; (2) water-jet cooling in drums from 650 to around 200°C. At the same time, coke of size class
