Analytical study of the responses of bottom panels to slamming loads

Ocean Engineering, 2015
The responses of boat hull bottom panels under slamming loads are studied analytically using a linear elastic Euler–Bernoulli beam as a representation of the cross section of a bottom panel. The slamming pressure is modeled as a high-intensity peak followed by a lower constant pressure, traveling at constant speed along the beam.

Global and slam loads for a large wavepiercing catamaran design

Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2006
Prediction of design loads for small high speed commercial craft has traditionally been governed by classification society, rule based formulae. Larger high speed vessels, particularly those greater than 100m in length, require validation of rule based design loads.

Prediction of Extreme Wave Slamming Loads on a Fixed Platform

Volume 2: CFD and FSI, 2018
Design of offshore oil platforms requires accurate prediction of the maximum wave loads due to slamming on horizontal decks. The physical processes that influence the load are the propagation of irregular short-crested wind-driven storm seas, wave breaking, and wave-structure interaction.

Slamming Load Prediction Using Overset CFD Methods

Offshore Technology Conference, 2016
Abstract Slamming pressures provide one of the most important load sets for the design and classification of ships and offshore structures. These loads are highly localized and nonlinear, and therefore difficult to predict. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a viable tool for their estimation, but validation must be demonstrated ...

A modified orthonormal polynomial series expansion tailored to thin beams undergoing slamming loads

Ocean Engineering, 2019
In this paper, a novel version of orthonormal polynomial series expansion method is developed to analyze vibrations of bottom hull panels due to moving impacting fluid loads. The initial phase of slamming is considered in the presented mathematical model,

Derivation of slamming loads using the Optimal State Estimation Method

This paper shows the use of the Optimal State Estimation Method (OSE) for estimation of slamming forces for model experiments. The OSE estimates the external loads using the response of the model and calculated natural modes. The response is measured with several accelerometers to allowthe OSE to estimate the response of the flexible modes which is ...

Using SPH to compute slamming loads on vertical structures [PDF]

open access: possible, 2012
The evaluation of slamming loads on structures is a challenging problem in both civil and industrial engineering. For instance, waves on coastal works and ship structures may occasionally induce high pressure peaks, causing significant stresses, despite their short duration. Similar problems arise in debris flow impact on structures.
