A slant removal algorithm

Pattern Recognition, 2000
A robust optical character recognition (OCR) system has to be able to cope with slanted words. Such words may dramatically a!ect the performance of the segmentation algorithms. Even in cases where segmentation is not a prerequisite, the training procedure of the recognition module is more di$cult and complicated while attempting to cover slanted ...

Projection Profile Based Algorithm for Slant Removal

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2004
The slant is one of the main sources of handwritten text variability. The slant is the clockwise angle between the vertical direction and the vertical text strokes. A well formalised and fast method to estimate the slant angle is presented. The method is based on the observation that the columns distribution of the vertical projection profile presents ...

New algorithms for skewing correction and slant removal on word-level [OCR]

ICECS'99. Proceedings of ICECS '99. 6th IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.99EX357), 2003
The word preprocessing is a crucial stage of OCR systems. Here we present two algorithms appropriate for this stage. The first one corrects the skewing of words and the second removes the slant from handwritten words. Both algorithms make use of the Wigner-Ville distribution and the projection profile technique. The algorithms have been tested on words

Dispersive and Non-Dispersive Noise Removal by Local, Slant-Sum, Adaptive Filtering

Journal of Environmental & Engineering Geophysics, 2001
This paper presents a new interactive procedure, Local Slant-Sum Adaptive Noise Removal (LSSANR), for attenuating linear, coherent, noise modes in the time-space domain. The procedure uses either a fixed or a sliding window to estimate noise wavelets and then subtracts the noise wavelets from the seismic traces on shot records.

A slant removal technique for document page

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
The slant removal is a necessary preprocessing task in many document image processing systems. In this paper, we describe a technique for removing the slant from the entire page, avoiding the segmentation procedure. The presented technique could be combined with the most existed slant removal algorithms.
