Agent‐Based Simulations of Lung Tumor Evolution Suggest That Ongoing Cell Competition Drives Realistic Clonal Expansions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Computational simulations of tumor evolution are increasingly used to infer the rules underlying cancer growth, with the goal of one day recommending tailored treatments. Here we show that the properties of lung cancer sequencing data are best replicated by a model which assumes that cells compete both to proliferate and survive. ABSTRACT Computational

A Rigid–Foldable Kirigami‐Inspired Metamorphic Mechanism With Programmable Motion Modes and Self‐Locking

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Geometric constraint reconfiguration enables a rigid–foldable kirigami‐inspired mechanism to switch between twisting, directional translation, and self‐locking states. By encoding multifunctionality directly into its architecture, the mechanism achieves multimodal motion and passive locking without reassembly, providing a compact platform for adaptive ...

The Impact of Superior Labral Anterior to Posterior Lesions on Functional Status in Shoulder Instability

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2014
Background: Type IV superior labral anterior to posterior (SLAP) lesions, which are superior labral detachments associated with Bankart tears, are reported to occur in up to 25% of recurrent shoulder instability patients.

Superior Labral Anterior Posterior Repair and Biceps Tenodesis Surgery: Trends of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery Database

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2020
Objectives: Recent evidence has specified indications for performing Superior Labrum Anterior and Posterior (SLAP) repair and biceps tenodesis (BT) for the treatment of bicipital-labral lesions in the shoulder.

Arthroscopic Low-Profile Knotless Repair of SLAP Tears With Suture Tape

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2020
SLAP tears have been a controversial topic in shoulder surgery for decades. The indications for repair of SLAP tears, as well as the methods of repair, have undergone a recent evolution.

Stochastic Entanglement of Deterministic Origami Tentacles For Robust Robotic Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces an origami tentacle gripper to robustly grasp objects‐in air, underwater, and even in orbital space‐by exploiting a synergy between local, deterministic deformation programming and global, stochastic entanglements. A single origami tentacle can be designed to coil with a simple tendon pull.

Revealing the Nanoscale Morphology Changes of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell Catalyst Layers due to Conditioning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We apply ex situ and in situ scanning transmission X‐ray microscopy to reveal the structural degradation of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell catalyst layers due to conditioning and thermal heating of the catalyst coated membrane. We observe a redistribution of the ionomer and carbon‐black in the catalyst layer, as well as nanoscale membrane ...
