[Sleep apnea syndromes].

Comptes rendus des seances de la Societe de biologie et de ses filiales, 1990
Sleep apnea syndromes have been identified only relatively recently. Their most frequent form is characterized by a sleep-related upper airway obstruction resulting in apneas which may repeat themselves up to several hundred times during a night's sleep. Their mean duration is about 30 to 40 seconds, but some apneas last over one minute.
