増大かつ持続する睡眠時ブラキシズムは, 口腔領域あるいは一部関連する領域の問題ではなく, 睡眠や自律機能に関連する重大な生体の問題として考えなければならない.また, 睡眠時無呼吸症候群の歯科的なアプローチは, 医科の専門領域との連携が必須であり, 慎重な対応が必要である.本稿で示した今までの研究と臨床の知見は, 口腔感覚が睡眠時ブラキシズムと睡眠時無呼吸の種々な部分で重大な役割を演じている可能性を示唆している.これらを脳・睡眠・疼痛のメカニズムに関連づけて究明すべく, 分析を進めれば, 睡眠時ブラキシズムと睡眠時無呼吸の解明の緒となる貴重な資料を提供してくれるだろう.
