Cardiac Monitoring During Sleep
Sleep Medicine Clinics, 2009Normal sleep is associated with slowing of the heart rate and occasional asymptomatic selflimited rhythm disturbances. Obstructive sleep apnea produces cyclical changes in heart rate and an increase in the occurrence of cardiac dysrhythmias. Sleep medicine practitioners should be familiar with routine methods, limitations, and scoring of cardiac events,

2009 IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine Workshop, 2009
Patients suspected of suffering Sleep Apnea and Hypopnea Syndrome (SAHS) have to undergo sleep studies such as expensive polysomnographies to be diagnosed. Healthcare professionals are constantly looking for ways to improve the ease of diagnosis and comfort for this kind of patients as well as reducing both the number of sleep studies they need to ...

Experimental sleep phases monitoring
2016 IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI), 2016Nowadays there is a rich diversity of sleep monitoring systems available on the market. They promise to offer information about sleep quality of the user by recording a limited number of vital signals, mainly heart rate and body movement. Typically, fitness trackers, smart watches, smart shirts, smartphone applications or patches do not provide access ...

Respiration monitoring during sleeping
Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies, 2011The respiration belongs among basic vital functions and the knowledge of their parameters and quality is necessary in medicine. The research is leading to the methods, which are inconvenienced patients. These methods are important for monitoring respiration towards observation quality sleeping or The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Wi-Sleep: Contactless Sleep Monitoring via WiFi Signals
2014 IEEE Real-Time Systems Symposium, 2014Is it possible to leverage WiFi signals collected in bedrooms to monitor a person's sleep? In this paper, we show that with off-the-shelf WiFi devices, fine-grained sleep information like a person's respiration, sleeping postures and rollovers can be successfully extracted.

Monitoring Sleep and Arousal in Zebrafish
2010Zebrafish has emerged in the past 5 years as a model for the study of sleep and wake behaviors. Experimental evidence has shown that periods of behavioral quiescence in zebrafish larvae and adults are sleep-like states, as these rest bouts are regulated by the circadian cycle, are associated with decreases in arousal, and are increased following rest ...

Experience with telehealth for sleep monitoring and sleep laboratory management
Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, 2011In 2009, we established a pilot telehealth service to a sleep laboratory in Garden City, Kansas, approximately 600 km from the Kansas University Medical Center. Videoconferencing was used for polysomnography (PSG) study follow-up, patient monitoring and sleep laboratory medical management.
