Triaxial shear testing of polished slickensided surfaces

Landslides, 2011
A series of consolidated-drained triaxial tests were performed on precut and polished clay specimens to measure their drained residual strength. Two soils were tested during this research program: Rancho Solano Clay and San Francisco Bay Mud. Specimens were tested using a specially modified triaxial compression device which was developed to minimize ...

Slickenside lineations due to ductile processes

Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1990
Abstract Faults with features characteristic of slickensides, but with plastically deformed wallrocks, were propagated in paraffin wax in a shear environment. Flow of the bulk of the sample produced a strong foliation with fabric strengthening in localized zones that preceded the initiation of the fault.

Experimentally produced slickenside lineations in pyrophyllitic clay

Journal of Structural Geology, 1989
Abstract During shearing of pyrophyllitic clay, fault planes bearing slickenlines were generated on previously initiated C - and C '-planes. These slickenlines have excess lengths with respect to the measured slip displacement on the fault plane and are of the ridge-in-groove type with the hangingwall nesting into the footwall, and vice versa ...
