ABSTRACT Despite the large perceived popularity of fishing as a recreational activity, its multiple tourism dimensions, such as constraints, have received somewhat limited research interests. Leisure constraints research sheds insights into consumer travel, helping tourism service providers and developers develop and target services more efficiently ...

Domed‐rim microbial polygons and their preservation potential
Microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) derive through interactions between minerals and microorganisms. We define a domed‐rim MISS, morphologically distinct from abiotic mud cracks and demonstrate its potential for long‐term preservation. These structures represent promising biosignatures in ancient environments on Earth and potentially Mars.

Fire regime change in western Tasmania between 1830 and 2025
Sketches by N.J.B. Plomley of George Augustus Robinson western Tasmanian expeditions in 1830 and 1833, undertaken to persuade Aboriginal nations of western Van Diemen’s Land to leave their ancestral lands. Geographic analysis of Robinson journal of this remote area provides unique insights in the changes in fire regimes that followed this tragic ...

Water Relationships of Whey Permeate Powders
ABSTRACT Water relationships are developed for whey protein permeate powders based on an analysis of the composition, structural organization, and thermal properties of three commercial whey permeate powders (WPPs). On the basis of microscopic analysis, a two‐phase model of permeate powders with two types of particle morphologies is proposed: (1 ...

Abstract Previous studies have identified genetic loci that are associated with both feed conversion efficiency and gut microbiota in chickens, suggesting that interactions between the host genome and gut microbiota may influence chicken growth. However, the number of microbial QTL and gut microbiota associated with chicken body weight remains largely ...

Production of antibacterial compounds by a Steely hybrid polyketide synthase in Dictyostelium
By selecting appropriate production species under optimised culture conditions, new chlorinated dibenzofuran compounds, which previously could not be analysed in sufficient quantities, were identified from cellular slime mould fruiting bodies. The strong antibacterial activity exhibited by these compounds suggests a link to the ecological function of ...
