Slip of polydisperse polymers: Molecular weight distribution above and below the plane of slip

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2015
When strong slip occurs during the drag flow of highly entangled polybutadienes (PBD) in a sliding plate rheometer equipped with stainless steel parallel plates, a thin film of polymer debris remains on the substrate after the slip. This debris is assumed to be formed by the disentanglement process that occurs in strong slip at a distance of about one ...

Multicycle slip distribution along a laboratory fault

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1991
Slip distribution along a laboratory fault, which consists of eight spring‐connected blocks that are elastically driven to slide on a frictional surface, has been examined for a “long” sequence of slip events to test the applicability of some conceptual models proposed recently in the literature.

Slip band distribution in rapid thermally annealed silicon wafers

Journal of Applied Physics, 2012
X-ray diffraction imaging of 200 mm diameter (100) oriented double-side polished silicon wafers has revealed that the slip band distribution, following rapid thermal annealing (RTA), has a lower symmetry than predicted from the material crystallography.

Slip distribution of the 1985 Central Chile earthquake

Tectonophysics, 1988
Abstract Geodetic elevation changes record the deformation associated with the M s = 7.8, March 3, 1985, Central Chile earthquake. By summing elemental point sources in a half-space and employing a gradient technique with positivity constraints, we resolve the slip distribution on the dislocation surface.

Evidence for Truncated Exponential Probability Distribution of Earthquake Slip

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2016
Earthquake ruptures comprise spatially varying slip on the fault surface, where slip represents the displacement discontinuity between the two sides of the rupture plane. In this study, we analyze the probability distribution of coseismic slip, which provides important information to better understand earthquake source physics. Although the probability

Stress distribution in granular heaps using multi-slip formulation

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2005
Summary: Many experiments on conical piles of granular materials have indicated, contrary to simple intuition, that the maximum vertical stress does not occur directly beneath the sand-pile vertex but rather at some distance from the apex resulting in a ring of maximum vertical stress.

Distribution of slip dislocations in thermally deformed silicon wafers

2002 23rd International Conference on Microelectronics. Proceedings (Cat. No.02TH8595), 2003
Spatial distribution of slip dislocations in saddle-shaped Czochralski silicon wafers was characterized using an X-ray topography and optical microscope. It is shown that slip dislocations are preferentially generated and randomly distributed on the concave region versus the convex region of the wafers.

Discrete Surface Dynamics: Distributed Sprag Slip Elements in Brakes

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2017
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In recent years, characteristic structures in the boundary layer of high-load contacts such as brakes have been reported, which have an important impact on the dynamics of the tribological contact.

Seismicity distribution near strike-slip faults in California

2015
Hypocenters of small, relocated earthquakes are used to constrain how seismicity rates vary with distance from strike-slip faults in California. Stacks of events in a fault-referenced coordinate system show that out to a fault-normal distance x of 3-6 km, seismicity obeys a power-law ~(1+x^2/d^2)^(-g/2), where g is the asymptotic roll-off rate and d is

Empirical regressions for distributed faulting of dip-slip earthquakes

Earthquake Spectra
Probabilistic Fault Displacement Hazard Analysis (PFDHA) is pivotal in assessing the probability of surface fault displacement during seismic events, with critical implications for infrastructure systems like pipelines and lifelines. Recent earthquakes have underscored the importance of fault displacement as a cause of damage.
