Fault slip distribution and fault roughness [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 2011
We present analysis of the spatial correlations of seismological slip maps and fault topography roughness, illuminating their identical self-affine exponent. Though the complexity of the coseismic spatial slip distribution can be intuitively associated with geometrical or stress heterogeneities along the fault surface, this has never been demonstrated.

Earthquake slip distribution: A statistical model [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2005
The purpose of this paper is to interpret slip statistics in a framework of extended earthquake sources. We first discuss deformation pattern of the Earth's surface from earthquakes and suggest that continuum versus block motion controversy can be reconciled by a model of the fractal distribution of seismic sources.

Heterogeneous Slip Distribution Self-Similarity on a Fault Surface

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2016
The earthquake slip distribution self-similarity is investigated in this study. We complied finite fault slip models for earthquakes in the Taiwan orogenic belt and global earthquakes to determine the slip distribution self-similarity.

Multiplicity of solutions to geophysical inversion reflected by rupture slip distribution of the 2015 Nepal earthquake

open access: yesGeodesy and Geodynamics, 2017
The equivalence of geophysical fields, the finiteness of measurements and the measurement errors make the result of geophysical inversion non-unique. For example, the measurements and inversion method used, the priori rupture model determined and the ...

Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake coseismic slip distribution inversion

open access: yes, 2015
By using GPS and gravity data before and after the Wenchuan M s8.0 earthquake and combining data from geological surveys and geophysical inversion studies, an initial coseismic fault model is constructed.

Power‐law distribution of fault slip‐rates in southern California

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
The spatial partitioning of deformation in the continental crust and, in particular, at plate boundary zones is determined by the distribution of fault slip‐rates. Analytic and numerical models of strain accumulation in the elastic upper crust have been divided into those that parameterize faulting as localized on a finite length fault system comprised

Fault Geometry and Mechanism of the Mw 5.7 Nakchu Earthquake in Tibet Inferred from InSAR Observations and Stress Measurements

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Different types of focal mechanism solutions for the 19 March 2021 Mw 5.7 Nakchu earthquake, Tibet, limit our understanding of this earthquake’s seismogenic mechanism and geodynamic process.

InSAR Constrained Downdip and Updip Afterslip Following the 2015 Nepal Earthquake: New Insights into Moment Budget of the Main Himalayan Thrust

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
We use ALOS-2 and Sentinel-1 data spanning 2015–2020 to obtain the post-seismic deformation of the 2015 Mw 7.8 Nepal earthquake. ALOS-2 observations reveal that the post-seismic deformation was mainly distributed in four areas.

Rupture Kinematics and Coseismic Slip Model of the 2021 Mw 7.3 Maduo (China) Earthquake: Implications for the Seismic Hazard of the Kunlun Fault

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The 21 May 2021 Maduo earthquake was the largest event to occur on a secondary fault in the interior of the active Bayanhar block on the north-central Tibetan plateau in the last twenty years.

Source Model for the 2022 Qinghai Menyuan Ms 6.9 Earthquake Based on D-InSAR

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
On 8 January 2022, an Ms 6.9 earthquake occurred in Menyuan County, Qinghai Province, China. This earthquake ruptured a patch of the Qilian-Haiyuan fault in the northeast margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
