Storage of Doppler-Shift Information in the Echolocation System of the "CF-FM"-Bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum [PDF]
The greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) emits echolocation sounds consisting of a long constant-frequency (CF) component preceeded and followed by a short frequency-modulated (FM) component. When an echo returns with an upward Doppler-shift,

Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

The Persistence of Earnings and Corporate Governance in IPO Firms [PDF]
In this study, we investigate the earnings persistence in IPO firms by examining the two components of earnings: accruals and cash flows. We also analyze the impact of corporate governance on earnings and the two earnings components. In our comparison of

Long continuously chirped fibre Bragg gratings for compensation of linear- and 3rd order-dispersion
For the first time long broadband chirped fibre Bragg gratings with a dispersion profile designed to compensate 3rd order-dispersion are presented. These results demonstrate how the increased demands for dispersion compensation at very high bit-rates can

The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Torque Ripple Suppression of BLDCM With Optimal Duty Cycle and Switch State by FCS-MPC
The traditional six-step commutation control method in brushless DC motors (BLDCM) often results in significant torque ripple, which limits its application in high-precision fields.

Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.
