Nonlinear Dynamic Slope Stability Analysis

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1987
A procedure is described for performing nonlinear dynamic slope stability analysis. The method combines updated Lagrangian kinematic relations with a cap‐type, strain‐hardening soil plasticity model in an explicit nonlinear dynamic finite element formulation.

General Slope Stability Analysis

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1968
A statically accurate limiting equilibrium procedure is developed for the numerical treatment of nonhomogeneous earth slopes. The analysis includes a variety of loads including a static approximation for the influence of seismic forces. It may be carried out with use of total or effective strength parameters and yields a factor of safety on strength ...

Stability analysis of embankments and slopes

Géotechnique, 1973
A simple but accurate method of stability analysis of embankments and slopes is developed to determine the critical earthquake acceleration that is required to bring a mass of soil, bounded by a slip line of any shape and the free surface, to a state of limiting equilibrium. At the same time, the usual factor of safety can be determined.

Advanced seismic slope stability analysis

Landslides, 2012
The objective of this study was to present an advanced methodology for assessing seismic slope stability by taking into account the uncertainties related to the main input parameters. The methodology was applied on a real landslide in order to show the advantages of using the proposed procedure and establish the baseline trends of dynamic response and ...

Analysis of Slope Stability of Fly Ash Stabilized Soil Slope

2018
Fly ash is a waste product of thermal power plants, can be used as embankment material, stabilization of soft soils, road sub-base constructions, and other geotechnical fields. In this study, fly ash is used as soil stabilizer for an embankment slope. This paper discusses the shear strength parameters of the soil stabilized with fly ash.

Shallow Slope Stability Analysis Method for Vegetated Slope

IACGE 2013, 2013
Based on direct shear tests of soil samples with roots, the empirical formula of roots’ contribution to soil’s shear strength is summarized. In consideration of the effects of sliding surface depth, sliding mass width, sliding mass shape and roots, shallow slope stability analysis method for vegetated slope is suggested by mechanical equilibrium ...

Probabilistic analysis in slope stability

2009
Geotechnical design is, perhaps, the civil engineering subject most dominated by uncertainty. Although partly due to limited field investigations, the main reason of this uncertainty is the highly heterogeneous and anisotropic nature of ground materials. Deterministic design methods as required by design codes, attempt to account for ground uncertainty

Slope stability analysis of riverbanks

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1983
Practical considerations for the use of subsurface exploratory data and material strength data in slope stability calculations for estimating the factor of safety along potential slip surfaces in natural slopes are described and illustrated with a sample problem.
