Soil pH Amelioration Synergizes Carbon Accrual with Yield Gains Under Organic Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soil pH shifts towards neutrality in both acidic and alkaline soils under organic substitution. A global synthesis links pH amelioration to soil organic carbon accrual through enhanced microbial biomass after accounting for added organic carbon and its interaction with pH. This pH amelioration‐shared soil organic carbon accrual accounts for 5.1–8.6% of

Standardization, certification, and development of biochar based fertilizer for sustainable agriculture: An overview

open access: yesEnvironmental Pollution and Management
The growing global population and decreasing arable land present challenges to agriculture. Traditional fertilizers enhance productivity but also bring about environmental and economic concerns.

WFS1 Deficiency Impairs PIAS4‐Associated SUMOylation and Increases Ubiquitin‐Mediated Spermatogenesis‐Related Protein Degradation Leading to Testicular Male Infertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The findings establish a critical role for WFS1 in human male fertility. Mechanistically, WFS1 interacts with PIAS4 to promote the SUMOylation of key spermatogenesis‐associated proteins, which in turn competitively inhibits their K48‐linked ubiquitin‐mediated degradation during spermatogenesis.

Nitrogen release dynamics and transformation of slow release fertiliser products and their effects on tea yield and quality

open access: yes, 2008
BACKGROUND: Tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) is a perennial leaf harvested crop. It requires more nitrogen than most other crops and preferentially utilises NH4+ to NO3- when both are available in the soil.

Potential slow release fertilizers based on K2MgSiO4 obtained from serpentinite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this work, a potassium magnesium silicate mineral based on phase K2MgSiO4 was prepared from serpentinite rock and studied as a potential K and Mg slow-release fertilizer. The material was prepared by impregnation of serpentinite/KOH and calcination at

Digoxin Alleviates Osteoarthritis by Inhibiting Macrophage Extracellular Trap Formation via Disruption of the LSP1‐SOD1 Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Synovial macrophages in osteoarthritis upregulate LSP1, which directly binds and inhibits SOD1, triggering a redox imbalance that activates both NOX and mitochondrial ROS pathways. This cascade drives the release of macrophage extracellular traps (METs), causing chondrocyte damage and disease progression.

Enhanced efficiency fertilizers: Overview of production methods, materials used, nutrients release mechanisms, benefits and considerations

open access: yesEnvironmental Pollution and Management
The application of fertilizers is necessary for continuous replenishment of plants nutrients, sustaining the productivity of soils. Inorganic fertilizers are very simple, chemically defined, water soluble, and easily absorbed for immediate and ...

Farmers' Preferences for Gene Editing Crops and Influencing Factors

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gene editing (GE) is gaining momentum worldwide, but limited data on UK farmers' preferences hinders our understanding of its potential impact amid deregulation debates. Based on a survey of 200 English arable farmers, we employ a Latent Class Analysis and Multinomial Logit regressions to investigate current preferences for GE crops.
