Effect of Deaeration and Test Technique on Slow Strain Rate Tensile Results in Sour Environments
CORROSION 1994, 1994Abstract It is crucial to obtain reproducible slow strain rate test (SSRT) data when evaluating materials for service. Erratic results can be obtained for nickel-base alloys in high temperature sour environments if important variables are not controlled.

Abstract The effect of hydrogen on the deformation and fracture behavior in pure Cu, pure Ni and Cu–Ni alloy was studied via tensile tests of H-charged, smooth and circumferentially-notched specimens at room temperature (RT) and 77 K. Hydrogen-diffusion properties were determined by the desorption method.

Several criteria based on reduction in area (RA) or relative RA (RRA) are proposed for determining the hydrogen compatibility of austenitic stainless steels; however, the mechanism of hydrogen-induced degradation in RA and RRA is not necessarily clear.

An experimental set-up has been developed to perform slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests on tubular 304L stainless steel (SS) specimens in supercritical water (SCW) environment (550 °C, 250 bar). The supercritical water is circulated inside an internally pressurized tubular specimen mounted into a universal mechanical test rig and heated by a single ...

This paper investigates application of slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) testing as a laboratory method to characterize stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of type 40Cr steel in the acidic chloride solution. SSRT testing was carried out at room temperature in acidic chloride solution and seawater at different strain rates (3.82×10-7 to 1.41×10-

In the present work, LBE (lead-bismuth eutectic) embrittlement effects on ferritic/martensitic (FM) steels have been studied by conducting slow-strain-rate tensile (SSRT) testing on T91 and F82H steels either in Ar or in liquid LBE after irradiation to doses up to about 20 dpa in a mixed spectrum of spallation neutrons and high energy protons.

Slow strain rate tensile (SSRT) tests were performed using smooth specimens of quenched and tempered JIS-SCM435 steels with three different tensile strengths (TS), which are ranged from 824 to 1127 MPa. The tests were carried out in 115 MPa hydrogen gas and reference gases (air or 115 MPa nitrogen gas) at three different temperatures; 233 K, room ...

Abstract A slow strain rate test (SSRT) is effective to survey materials selection for a hostile well such as deep sour gas. In order to use effectively data from different sources, it is necessary to make causes of error or variance clear and minimize data variance. In this paper, various factors affecting SSRT evaluation
