Evaluation of a theory for pressure-strain rate [PDF]

open access: yes
A theoretical expression for the slow part (the nonlinear fluctuation part) of the pressure-strain rate is compared with simulations of anisotropic homogeneous flows.

Rearrangements and Dilatancy for Sheared Dense Materials

open access: yes, 2001
Constitutive equations are proposed for dense materials, based on the identification of two types of free-volume activated rearrangements associated to shear and compaction.

New high concentration–high temperature hydrogenation method for slow strain rate tensile tests

open access: yesMaterials Letters, 2007
Abstract The aim of the present paper is to propose an innovative hydrogenation method based on metal hydride dissociation. By heating metal hydride, high pressure of molecular hydrogen is generated, which can be used to promote diffusion through the steel, resulting in very high atomic hydrogen concentration.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Hydrogen Diffusion and Its Effect on Hydrogen Embrittlement in DP Steels With Different Martensite Content

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
The hydrogen diffusion behavior and hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of dual phase (DP) steels with different martensite content were investigated using the slow strain-rate tensile test and hydrogen permeation measurement.

The stress-corrosion behavior of Al-Li-Cu alloys: A comparison of test methods [PDF]

open access: yes
Two powder metallurgy processed (Al-Li-Cu) alloys with and without Mg addition were studied in aqueous 3.5% NaCl solution during the alternate immersion testing of tuning fork specimens, slow crack growth tests using fracture mechanics specimens, and the

Dynamics of Large-Scale Plastic Deformation and the Necking Instability in Amorphous Solids

open access: yes, 2002
We use the shear transformation zone (STZ) theory of dynamic plasticity to study the necking instability in a two-dimensional strip of amorphous solid. Our Eulerian description of large-scale deformation allows us to follow the instability far into the ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Effects of Hydrogen on Stress Corrosion Cracking Behavior of Ultra-High Strength Steel 23Co14Ni12Cr3Mo

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
Susceptibility of 23Co14Ni12Cr3Mo ultra-high strength steel to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in a 3.5% NaCl solution was studied with different hydrogen charging specimens by using slow strain rate tests (SSRT), constant load tests (CL) and ...
