We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the soliton dynamics under a slowly varying medium for generalized KdV equations
We consider the problem of the soliton propagation, in a slowly varying medium, for a generalized Korteweg - de Vries equations (gKdV). We study the effects of inhomogeneities on the dynamics of a standard soliton.

Identifiability of slowly varying systems
A system is conceived of as being slowly varying if it changes slowly enough to permit identification to within a specified error. A generic model is developed to study the identifiability and identification of slowly varying systems. The model is suitable for a large variety of nonlinear, time-varying, causal, bounded memory systems; it has finitely ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Weakly Coupled Oscillators in a Slowly Varying World
We extend the theory of weakly coupled oscillators to incorporate slowly varying inputs and parameters. We employ a combination of regular perturbation and an adiabatic approximation to derive equations for the phase-difference between a pair of ...

Tidal heating and torquing of a Kerr black hole to next-to-leading order in the tidal coupling [PDF]
We calculate the linear vacuum perturbations of a Kerr black hole surrounded by a slowly-varying external spacetime to third order in the ratio of the black-hole mass to the radius of curvature of the external spacetime.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Review of Unbiased FIR Filters, Smoothers, and Predictors for Polynomial Signals [PDF]
Extracting an estimate of a slowly varying signal corrupted by noise is a common task. Examples can be found in industrial, scientific and biomedical instrumentation.

Slowly varying filtration combustion waves
We describe the slow evolution of the wave speed and reaction temperature in a model of filtration combustion. In the counterflow configuration of the process, a porous solid matrix is converted to a porous solid product by injecting an oxidizing gas at high pressure into one end of a fresh sample of the solid while igniting it at the other end.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
