In situ Generation of Fluoride Catalysts for CO2‐to‐Formic Acid Conversion With Silicon Reducing Agent

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Reductive conversion of CO2 to formic acid with waste silicon reducing agent catalyzed by in situ generation of active fluoride species from a tertiary amine, protonic acid, and simple inorganic fluoride salt, such as KF and NaF. ABSTRACT The activation and catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) using silicon‐based reducing agents is an important ...

Cobalt toxicity in anaerobic granular sludge: influence of chemical speciation

open access: yes, 2008
The influence of cobalt speciation on the toxicity of cobalt to methylotrophic methanogenesis in anaerobic granular sludge was investigated. The cobalt speciation was studied with three different media that contained varying concentrations of complexing ...

Tunable amylopectin graft copolymers for flocculating and dewatering iron ore tailings

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Polyacrylamide (PAM), the standard flocculant for mining tailings, often produces turbid supernatants and poorly dewatered sediments, limiting water reuse and tailings densification. We synthesized amylopectin‐graft‐poly[(2‐methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride (AP‐g‐PMETAC) copolymers with systematically varied graft frequency (N =

Economic and environmental implications of the development of UASB reactors in Mexico for sustainable industrial wastewater treatment

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The objective of this work is to demonstrate that the inclusion of an up‐flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB reactor) within an industrial wastewater treatment plant reduces the plant's investment and operating costs compared to a system based solely on conventional complete‐mix activated sludge (CMAS), operating under the same design principles ...

Natural South African iron‐rich sand as a functional catalyst in hybrid photocatalytic wet peroxide oxidation technology for the degradation of methyl orange dye pollutant

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This research explored South African iron‐rich sand (SAIRS) as a natural catalyst for light‐mediated wet peroxide oxidation of methyl orange dye in wastewater and at an optimized of conditions of 3500 mg/L catalyst dose, 6 mM H2O2, and pH 2.5, SAIRS achieved 94% methyl orange degradation within 90 min under visible light.

Chemical and biological phosphorus removal in the activated sludge process

open access: yes, 1980
Bibliography: leaves 86-88.This investigation set out to establish in what degree the phosphorus removal characteristics of the Modified Activated Sludge Process could be enhanced by the in-plant addition of iron salts.

Green and sustainable synthesis of magnetite from copper slag via citrate complexation for methylene blue dye removal from water

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract This study proposes a novel, green, and sustainable method for synthesizing magnetic iron oxides from metallurgical copper slag (CS), leveraging its iron content as a valuable resource. Iron was extracted via acid leaching using edible citric acid (ECA), forming a citrate–iron complex (CSL), which was subsequently thermally decomposed at 300°C
