Biliary Sludge

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1999
Biliary sludge was first described with the advent of ultrasonography in the 1970s. It is defined as a mixture of particulate matter and bile that occurs when solutes in bile precipitate. Its composition varies, but cholesterol monohydrate crystals, calcium bilirubinate, and other calcium salts are the most common components.

Sludge

2021
How we became so burdened by red tape and unnecessary paperwork, and why we must do better. We've all had to fight our way through administrative sludge—filling out complicated online forms, mailing in paperwork, standing in line at the motor vehicle registry. This kind of red tape is a nuisance, but, as Cass Sunstein shows in Sludge, it

SLUDGED BLOOD

A.M.A. Archives of Surgery, 1951
IT IS NOW eight years since Knisely and his associates first reported their observations on the curious phenomenon of red cell agglutination within vascular walls. To this phenomenon they applied the term "sludge." A great deal of earnest and interested work has been done, and many articles on the subject have been published showing the presence of ...

Anaerobic sludge granulation

Water Research, 2004
This paper reviews different theories on anaerobic sludge granulation in UASB-reactors that have been proposed during the past two decades. The initial stages of the formation of anaerobic granules follow the same principles as biofilm formation of bacteria on solid surfaces.

Sludges

International Paperworld IPW, 2012
A study was conducted to develop an analytical procedure that would provide information of the utilization potential of sludge fractions. The possibility to recirculated material within a process was investigated including the cleanliness of the fractions, along with the determination of the share of organic and inorganic material.

Energy-efficient sludge sonication: Power and sludge characteristics

Bioresource Technology, 2008
This paper improves the energy efficiency for sludge treatment using ultrasound. The sludge organic content, solid concentration, ultrasonic intensity, and time were optimized. A new index, kWh / kgSCOD-increase, was used to evaluate the energy efficiency that covers both sludge characteristics and lysis effectiveness.

DEWATERING OF SLUDGE

Water Research, 1972
A DECISION on the mechanical dewatering of raw and digested sludges calls for an initial appraisal of the outline economics related to the budgetary costs of capital construction and estimate of operating costs. The latter at times can be the subject of material revision when the plant is installed and operated, and demands a firm performance ...

Liquid sludge disposal

Water Research, 1972
Abstract This relatively inexpensive way of sludge disposal can only be realized on the base of an efficient and skillful regional organization like that of Niersverband. The Niersverband meets the demands of sewage plant operation as well as those of agriculture in order to maintain continuous liquid sludge disposal from big sewage plants even in a
