JAPAN TAPPI JOURNAL, 2006脱水工程は汚泥の減量化，固形化を行う重用な工程であり，効率の良いものが求められている。また，近年CO2排出による地球温暖化現象への関心の高まりから，脱水性能のみならず低消費動力のものが求められるようになった。ロータリプレスフィルタはカナダのフォーニヤ社から導入し，現在巴工業株式会社で製造・販売している新しい機構を持つ汚泥脱水機である。低消費動力，簡単な構造，省スペース，少ない洗浄水量などの特徴に加え維持管理性でもこれからの時代に適応した脱水機である。導入以来，採用件数は年々増加傾向となっており，日本国内だけでも下水汚泥の脱水，工場排水汚泥の脱水向けなどに44台の納入実績がある。そのうち製紙排水汚泥の脱水向けには11台納入されている。本稿ではロータリプレスフィルタの処理性能，導入効果について紹介する。
