Lagrangian slug flow modeling and sensitivity on hydrodynamic slug initiation methods in a severe slugging case

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2013
Abstract Severe slugging is a dynamic two-phase flow phenomenon with regular liquid accumulation and blow-out in flow-line riser geometries. This paper discusses the applicability of a slug tracking model on a case where hydrodynamic slug initiation in a horizontal part of the pipeline upstream the riser base affects the severe slugging cycle period.

Two-Phase Slug Flow

1990
Publisher Summary Slug flow is a highly complex type of flow with an unsteady nature. The prediction of pressure drop, heat, and mass transfer for such flow is often considered a difficult task. The chapter deals with steady slug flow. The chapter introduces several options of modeling the hydrodynamic parameters and pressure drop using a unified ...

Expansion of liquids and fluidised beds in slug flow

Chemical Engineering Science, 1971
Abstract Three distinct analyses are used to predict the maximum height of a column of liquid or fluidised particles through which gas slugs are passing. All three analyses give the same result, and experimental results obtained with two liquid systems support the theoretical work.

Slug Flow Hydrodynamics in the Presence of Catalyst Rods

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2004
A design for a slug flow reactor, referred to as the confined slug flow (CSF) reactor, is presented and some hydrodynamic issues for this reactor are considered. Particular attention is given to the prediction of gas bubble and liquid slug velocities and lengths.

Review on vertical gas–liquid slug flow

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2016
Abstract Vertical slug flow is characterized by the rise of long bullet-shaped gas bubbles with a diameter almost matching that of the tube - Taylor bubbles. Liquid slugs separate consecutive Taylor bubbles, which may interact and coalesce if the distance between them is small.

Prediction of slug frequency in horizontal two‐phase slug flow

AIChE Journal, 1990
AbstractAvailable data on slug frequency in horizontal two‐phase intermittent flow are predicted with adequate accuracy by assuming that the slug frequency is one half of the frequency of the unstable waves precursors of slugs, as determined according to published analyses of finite amplitude waves in conduits.

Slug flow in curved microreactors: Hydrodynamic study

Chemical Engineering Science, 2007
Abstract The need for eco-friendly and energy saving processes which are substantially compact and give higher efficiency has led to the concept of process intensification (PI). Curved microchannel is such innovative device, which has potential for the intensification of processes currently carried out in conventional straight or T-type microchannels.

Gas-Liquid Slug Flow

2003
This chapter describes gas-liquid slug flow (also known as intermittent flow). Conservation equations are derived based on the assumptions of the unit cell model. The main results concerning the motion of long bubbles and liquid slugs are reviewed.
