Bio‐Inspired Gradient Coatings Enhance the Leading Edge Erosion Resistance of Wind Blades

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rain‐induced erosion of the wind turbine blade leading edge poses a critical challenge to maintenance and operation. Here, we propose a bio‐inspired approach for erosion protection utilising a platelet‐reinforced polyurethane coating with a graded through‐thickness architecture.

Operando Visualization of Cathode Water Management in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyzers Using Synchrotron X‐Ray Radiography

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The cathode of proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers remains a poorly understood region despite its importance for hydrogen purity and operational safety. Operando synchrotron X‐ray radiography directly visualizes liquid water behavior and uncovers a transition from continuous to pulsating transport, providing new insight into multiphase ...

Gas flow dynamics in the conduit of Strombolian explosions inferred from seismo-acoustic observations at Aso volcano, Japan

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2019
Strombolian explosions are one of the most studied eruptive styles and are characterized by intermittent explosions. The mechanism of a Strombolian explosion is modeled as a large gas pocket (slug) migrating through the magma conduit and then bursting at

Low‐Power Control Of Resistance Switching Transitions in First‐Order Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Joule losses are a serious concern in modern integrated circuit design. In this regard, minimizing the energy necessary for programming memristors should be handled with care. This manuscript presents an optimal control framework, allowing to derive energy‐efficient programming voltage protocols for resistance switching devices. Following this approach,

On the kinematics of horizontal slug flow pneumatic conveying and the relationship between slug length, porosity, velocities and stationary layers

open access: yesPowder Technology, 2019
Abstract This paper focusses specifically on the topic of slug velocity and the definitions and origins of the various velocities observed within horizontal slug flow pneumatic conveying. Testing was conducted and measurement of slug particle velocity and wave front and rear velocities confirmed existing observations in the literature that the slug ...

Array‐Level Characterization of Cryogenic RRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This paper reports the first array‐level comprehensive electrical characterization of a 1024‐device HfO2‐based RRAM array from 300, 77 to 4 K, covering forming, set/reset switching, endurance, retention, relaxation, and read disturb. The results manifest the high performance of RRAM array at cryogenic temperatures and huge application potential for ...

Abrupt and Gradual Resistive Switching in Interface‐Modified IGZO Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) surface is modified with Ar‐plasma and ultraviolet ozone (UV‐O3) treatment. The W/IGZO/Pt memristors with Ar‐plasma treatment show forming‐free abrupt switching, whereas the UV‐O3‐treated device exhibits gradual switching, while both operate at voltages ≤1 V.

Extreme Weather Events and Consumer Food Responses

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates consumer food responses to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which affected a swath of the Southeastern U.S. in 2024. Using representative consumer survey data from six affected states, we analyze 10 distinct food responses classified into ex ante and ex post responses, and examine their associations with food insufficiency
