Cavitation and Slurry Erosion of Aluminum in the Slurry Pot Tester

Materials Science Forum, 2012
In harnessing clean and renewable energy sources water turbines represent a significant portion of the power generation worldwide. Because of erosion, repair and maintenance of hydraulic turbines is a difficult problem. Material removal in hydraulic turbine components may occur either by particle erosion or cavitation erosion or by their combined ...

Synergy of cavitation and slurry erosion in the slurry pot tester

Wear, 2012
Abstract Hydraulic machine materials are routinely tested under laboratory conditions to study the effects of slurry erosion and cavitation erosion. The material removal may occur by either of the modes or by their combined effect. To evaluate the damage in the latter case, where the damage can be severe, there is a need for a suitable test method ...

A new Coriolis slurry erosion tester design for improved slurry dynamics

Wear, 2003
Abstract The Coriolis slurry tester provides a means of discriminating between the resistance of different materials to slurry erosion damage under low interaction intensity (low impingement angle and low normal velocity impact) conditions. A new design of the rotor–specimen holder assembly has been evolved to provide better control of the slurry ...

Effect of impact velocity on slurry erosion and a new design of a slurry erosion tester

Wear, 1991
Abstract Experimental technique has been a main block in the study of slurry erosion. This paper presents a new design for a slurry erosion tester. The tester uses a variable speed electric motor to drive a rotator that rotates in a vacuum chamber. The specimens are clamped in specimen fixtures on the ends of four arms of the rotator and impacted by ...

Design of a slurry erosion test rig

Wear, 1990
Abstract The design of a jet impingement slurry erosion test rig, built for laboratory use, is presented. This apparatus gives good control over many of the important test parameters, such as impact velocity, solid particle concentration and impact angle.

Elastomers and plastics for resisting erosion attack of abrasive/erosive slurries

Wear, 2019
Abstract Elastomers and plastics are widely used as the materials for handling abrasive/erosive slurries because of their wear resistance, toughness, corrosion resistance and light weight. In this study, slurry jet erosion, Coriolis slurry scouring erosion and large particle slurry erosion are used to characterize the erosion resistance of selected ...

Slurry erosion behavior of high entropy alloys

Wear, 2017
Abstract High entropy alloys (HEAs) represent a new paradigm of structural alloys comprising of multiple principal elements in equimolar or near-equimolar concentration. The superior corrosion and oxidation resistance of HEAs at high temperature make them attractive for several structural applications.

Microstructural influence in slurry erosion of ceramics

Wear, 1995
A simple slurry pot tester for evaluating the erosion behavior of materials is described. Measurements of the erosive wear of various ceramics using this tester in an aqueous slurry of silicon carbide grits are presented. Effects of varying the erodent particle size distribution and the slurry loading are investigated.

Some Coriolis slurry erosion test developments

Tribology International, 2002
Abstract The Coriolis test has developed into a useful way of evaluating the slurry erosion behaviour of materials. Wear mapping has revealed some sensitivity to test conditions so both the tester and test procedures continue to evolve. Experiments with very dilute model slurries comprising a ‘pinch’ of glass beads, or a single glass bead, gave ...

Erosion wear in slurry pumps and pipes

Powder Technology, 1987
Abstract Erosion wear is an important factor in the design and operation of the equipment handling slurries. This paper outlines an energy approach to determine the erosion wear from the solids velocity and concentration distributions in the vicinity of the exposed walls.
