The fluid dynamics of ice slurry
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2005A review of research work of fluid dynamics of fine-crystalline ice slurry is presented. Different rheological models which are applied are presented. Numerous models for the friction factor, obtained by empirical and semi-empirical approximation, are discussed.

In this study, an original method for production of ice slurry from ethanol solution without using a refrigerator is proposed. As was introduced in the first report, this system has advantages compared with similar existing systems using materials other than ethanol solution.

Generalized non-Newtonian flow of ice-slurry
Chemical Engineering and Processing - Process Intensification, 2007Abstract In this paper, we present results of the studies of pressure drops during laminar and turbulent flows of ice slurry produced on the basis of 10.6% ethanol solution. The results, obtained at various ice mass fractions, include pressure drops determined in horizontal ducts of circular, rectangular, and slit cross-sections.

Slurry-Store: Experimental and numerical investigations of ice slurry storages
Ice slurry generation technology with the supercooling method consists of cooling water below its melting pointin a supercooling heat exchanger, called supercooler, therefore retaining this water is in a thermodynamicallymetastable liquid state. Downstream from the supercooler, the supercooled water flows through a flow-basedcrystallizer where the ...Carbonell, Daniel +2 more

Ice fraction error calculation in ice slurries

Ice slurry: Pressure drop and deposition velocity
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2007Ice slurries are used in indirect refrigeration systems. The storage tank of ice slurry systems decreases the maximum required cooling capacity of the equipment and smooths down the installation consumption. An advantage of ice slurry systems compared to chilled water systems is the higher cooling energy that can be delivered to customers using the ...

Thermodynamics and heat transfer of ice slurries
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2005Abstract The thermodynamics and heat transfer of ice slurries is reviewed. It starts with a collection of models to calculate the effective thermal conductivity. These relations were derived for suspensions with solid particles that do not change its phase. Therefore, they can only be first approximations.

Entropy generation in ice slurry pipe flow
International Journal of Refrigeration, 2008The purpose of this work is to investigate the entropy generation in ice slurry pipe flow. Fully developed laminar flow is considered with uniform heat flux at the walls. The fluid behaves as a non-Newtonian fluid following the power-law model. Expressions for velocity, entropy generation number and average entropy generation number are obtained as ...
