Malignant pleural effusions and the role of talc poudrage and talc slurry: a systematic review and meta-analysis [v2; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/52v] [PDF]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2015
Background: Malignant Pleural Effusion (MPE) is common with advanced malignancy. Palliative care with minimal adverse events is the cornerstone of management.

Predictors of talc slurry pleurodesis success in patients with malignant pleural effusions

open access: yesRevista Portuguesa de Pneumologia (English Edition), 2017
Introduction: Malignant pleural effusions are an important burden of malignant disease. Slurry talc pleurodesis remains one of the most common and effective therapeutic options.

Synergistic Sealing of the Pleural Space: Combining Thoracoscopic Talc Poudrage and IPC for Malignant Pleural Effusion-A Case Series. [PDF]

open access: yesRespirol Case Rep
We describe the technique of performing talc poudrage and indwelling pleural catheter (IPC) insertion during the same setting to enhance procedural efficiency and patient outcomes. We report a case series of malignant pleural effusion demonstrating successful pleurodesis within 2–4 weeks using this combined approach.

Size-Controlled Talc Nanosheet Ionogel Electrolytes for Dendrite Suppression in Solid-State Sodium Metal Batteries. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall Sci
Ionogel electrolytes are formulated using size‐controlled talc nanosheets for sodium metal batteries. Smaller nanosheets enhance ionic liquid immobilization and increase ionogel modulus. These high‐modulus ionogels improve Na deposition uniformity and mechanical resistance to dendrite growth.

Thoracoscopic Talc Insufflation Versus Talc Slurry in Patients with Malignant Pleural Effusion [PDF]

open access: yesSuez Canal University Medical Journal, 2021
Background: Malignant Pleural Effusion (MPE) is defined as an accumulation of pleural fluid in which malignant cells are present. It is a poor clinical indicator as it represents an advanced stage neoplasm with median survival ranging from one to 12 months.

Talc poudrage versus talc slurry in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion. [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 2006
The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness, safety and appropriate mode of administration of intrapleural talc for pleurodesis, in the treatment of malignant pleural effusion (MPE).Prospective not randomized trial was conducted to compare thoracoscopic talc poudrage (TP) with tube thoracostomy and talc slurry (TS) for the local control ...

Malignant Pleural Effusion: Palliative Managements and Indication for Pleurodesis Based on Survival Scores. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Surg Oncol
ABSTRACT Neoplastic pleural effusion is one in which malignant neoplastic cells are detected in the pleural fluid or in the parietal pleura. When secondary, it confirms disseminated neoplastic disease and suggests a reduced life expectancy and low quality of life.

Risk factors related to pleural empyema after talc slurry pleurodesis

open access: yesClinics, 2022
Empyema is a complication of talc-pleurodesis that may lead to further surgical intervention and death. Therefore, the present study's objective was to identify the risk factors for the development of post-pleurodesis empyema after talc slurry pleurodesis in order to better select patients for this procedure and minimize its morbidity.Patients with ...
