Oxygen penetration into CaF2:Sm2+ crystals

Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, 1968
Abstract The diffusion of O−− ions into CaF2:Sm2+ crystals has been directly observed by means of the decoloration of the crystals. In the presence of water vapor the O−− ions penetrate easily into the crystals, but in an O2 atmosphere penetration is quite limited.

Other Applications - The SM2

1993
The techniques described in this book are applicable in domains other than autonomous driving. In this chapter I present results which demonstrate this flexibility. I describe the application of these methods to the task of precisely guiding a robot called the Self Mobile Space Manipulator (SM2), which is designed to walk on the exterior of space ...

Magnetic characteristics of hexagonal Sm2−xRxCo16.4Zr0.6

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1985
Abstract Magnetic properties (Curie temperatures, saturation magnetizations and anisotropy fields) of alloys of the composition Sm 2− x R x Co 16.4 Zr 0.6 with R = La , Ce and Y are presented. The ternary system Sm 2 Co 16.4 Zr 0.6 is hexagonal and hence contains Sm in the 2b and 2d positions.

Luminescence of Sm2+ -doped fluoride glasses

Journal of Luminescence, 1993
Abstract We have investigated the optical properties of Sm 2+ -doped fluoride glasses having three different compositions. The absorption and emission spectra reveal that the immediate fluorine environment surrounding the Sm 2+ ion is nearly identical for the three glass compositions, and is probably characterized by a high coordination number. The

Stability of Sm2+ in Sm1−RE3+S

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1980
Abstract Critical concentrations and transition temperatures in Sm1−xRE3+xS have been investigated for several RE3+ -substituents. The valency υ of Sm in the metallic state is a more relevant parameter for the description of the phase transformation than the ionic size. It is related to the hybridization of local 4f-levels with 5d-conduction states.

One-photon reduction of Sm3+ to Sm2+

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, 1997
Abstract The photoreduction mechanism of Sm3+ to Sm2+ was studied using a KrF excimer laser. Reduction occurred via a one-photon process (different from previous suggestions). The reduction yield was 0.34 ± 0.09 in a methanol solution of 18-crown-6 with Sm3+. The oxidized solvent (*CH2OH radical) was observed in the transient spectrum.

Reversible photochromic processes in BaClF : Sm2+

Journal of Luminescence, 2001
Abstract The fluorescence intensity of Sm 2+ in BaClF has been found to decrease with the 325-nm light of a He–Cd laser and to recover with the 488-nm light of an Ar + ion laser at room temperature. At the same time, the increase or decrease in the optical absorption due to F centers has been observed. These results are interpreted in terms that Sm

Bleaching of Sm2+ during photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence

Optics Communications, 2001
Abstract Photoluminescence (PL) can trace Sm 2+ and Sm 3+ in different host lattices. Reversible bleaching of the Sm 2+ luminescence is reported for high intensity excited PL, leaving the Sm 3+ luminescence unchanged. The power dependent bleaching efficiency of the Sm 2+ luminescence was investigated for single crystals of CaF 2 , SrF 2 , BaFCl,
