SMAS Strip Autograft

Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2013
The thinning of the overlying nasal skin and nasal SMAS layer and the variations in nasal bones consistency increase the risk of showing dorsal contour irregularities after osteotomies of this site. The authors present their experience with combined nasal dorsal osteotomies and insertion of a SMAS strip graft, harvested during facelift procedure in 6 ...

Shape memory alloy (SMA)-cable-controlled sliding bearings: development, testing, and system behavior

Smart materials and structures (Print), 2020
This paper presents an innovative type of friction sliding bearing system incorporating shape memory alloy (SMA) cables. The study commences with cyclic tests on individual SMA cables to understand their fundamental mechanical properties.

Comparison of SMAS plication with smas imbrication in face lifting

The Laryngoscope, 1982
AbstractUndermining and imbricating the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) have been advocated by many recent authors to enhance the results of face lifting procedures. Because all undermining has dangers, we compared in 5 fresh cadavers and 15 patients the immediate operative effects on the labial commissures, buccolabial grooves, submental ...

Anatomy of the SMAS Revisited

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2003
Despite the relevance of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) in facial rejuvenation a clear anatomic definition of the SMAS is still lacking. Therefore, the morphology of the SMAS in 18 cadavers was investigated using different macroscopic and microscopic techniques.

SMA microgripper system

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2001
A microgripper system is presented, which consists of a monolithic shape memory alloy (SMA) device of 2 × 5.8 × 0.23 mm3 size and an integrated optical position sensor. By use of an integrated gear actuator, the motion of gripping jaws is transmitted into a linear motion of an integrated optical slit, which is detected by change of optical transmission.

Suprazygomatic SMAS in Rhytidectomy

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1984
A personal method for the treatment of the suprazygomatic SMAS and its results are presented. By acting on the suprazygomatic fibromuscular layer in the rhytidectomy, the surgeon can avoid tension on the cutaneous layer, and possible consequences thereof, as well as diminish the probabilities of damaging the facial nerve.
