Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2003
Despite the relevance of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) in facial rejuvenation a clear anatomic definition of the SMAS is still lacking. Therefore, the morphology of the SMAS in 18 cadavers was investigated using different macroscopic and microscopic techniques.

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2001
A microgripper system is presented, which consists of a monolithic shape memory alloy (SMA) device of 2 × 5.8 × 0.23 mm3 size and an integrated optical position sensor. By use of an integrated gear actuator, the motion of gripping jaws is transmitted into a linear motion of an integrated optical slit, which is detected by change of optical transmission.

Suprazygomatic SMAS in Rhytidectomy
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1984A personal method for the treatment of the suprazygomatic SMAS and its results are presented. By acting on the suprazygomatic fibromuscular layer in the rhytidectomy, the surgeon can avoid tension on the cutaneous layer, and possible consequences thereof, as well as diminish the probabilities of damaging the facial nerve.

With growing applications of SMA components in different engineering applications, the issue of material performance over its designed life is of great concern to researchers lately. Fatigue studies in SMAs is still an unsolved puzzle and we wish to highlight some important items that affect the designers and some open questions in SMA fatigue areas.

The SMAS and the Nasolabial Fold
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1992In a series of histologic sections and clinical and cadaver dissections, the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is seen to become the investing fascia of the zygomaticus major and minor muscles in the medial cheek. The pull on the cheek flap during rhytidectomy is diffused by the attachment of the SMAS to these muscles.

Nutcracker and SMA syndromes: What is the normal SMA angle in children?
European Journal of Radiology, 2012The nutcracker and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndromes are rare conditions where the left renal vein or duodenum may be compressed by an unusually acute angle between the SMA and aorta, although the normal angle in children is unknown. We measured the SMA angle to define the normal range in children. We retrospectively measured SMA angles, left ...
