Self-Centering Beam-to-Column Connections with Combined Superelastic SMA Bolts and Steel Angles

, 2017
This paper reveals the great potential of using combined superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) bolts and steel angles for self-centering connections with variable performance targets.

Improving the seismic performance of post-tensioned self-centering connections using SMA angles or end plates with SMA bolts

Smart materials and structures (Print), 2019
Cyclic performance of self-centering post-tensioned (PT) steel beam-column connections has been investigated numerically by introducing stiffened angle connection, shape memory alloy (SMA) angle connection and SMA bolted end plate connection.

Micromechanical analysis of porous SMA

Smart Materials and Structures, 2015
The present paper deals with computational micromechanical analyses of porous shape memory alloy (SMA). Porous SMAs are considered composite materials made of a dense SMA matrix including voids. A three-dimensional constitutive law is presented for the dense SMA able to reproduce the pseudo-elastic as well as the shape memory effects and, moreover, to ...

An investigation on scalability of SMA composite by roughness evaluation of SMA wires

Journal de Physique IV (Proceedings), 2004
Composites with embedded SMA wires as actuators work as solid-state actuators, and are therefore able to control the shape of a structure without requiring moveable parts. An important aspect to compare the behaviour and efficiency of such active structures as a function of size is scalability.

The U-SMAS Lift

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Summary: Manipulation of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) has become a mainstay of face-lifting procedures. The various surgical approaches to the SMAS traditionally have been classified as either “low” or “high” SMAS techniques, the former of which, although expeditious, have been criticized for suboptimal ...

Reliability of SMA-12

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1975
To the Editor.— I believe the answer given by Dr Barnett to the question of inaccurate automated chemical analysis (SMA 12) results was insufficient (233:911,1975). The problem described concerned a proportion of values that fell outside normal ranges: when second specimens were repeated by hand methods, they were found to be normal.

Celiac and SMA Stenting

2011
Celiac and SMA stenting is performed for occlusive disease of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries in the treatment of chronic mesenteric ischemia. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.

SMAS-Platysma Face Lift

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1983
Correction of laxity in the submental area and of hypertrophic neck cords has been enhanced with the SMAS-platysma face life over that which was achieved with a standard skin face lift. Evaluation of a 6-year experience with the SMAS-platysma face lift reveals that the operation can be safely performed with an acceptably low incidence of complications.
