Hybrid Composite Cable with an Increased Specific Strength for Tensioned Structures

open access: yes
. High strength hybrid composite cables with large specific strength on the base of such materials as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) and Vectran, are widely used in constructional practice.

Engineering programmable peptide hydrogels for chronic refractory wounds: A mechanism‐driven framework

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
To break the self‐perpetuating pathology of chronic wounds, we propose a mechanism‐driven engineering framework for peptide‐based hydrogels. This review elucidates a hierarchical strategy—from molecular design to intelligent, multi‐functional systems—that enables these programmable biomaterials to dynamically intervene in key pathological loops and ...

Integrity of hybrid steel-to-composite joints for marine application

open access: yes, 2004
There are many instances where the use of weight-saving polymer composite material for an entire structure is either too complex, too expensive or unfeasible.

Review of CFD modelling techniques for single‐phase and multiphase flow in static mixers

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approaches for static mixers, linking hydrodynamics to pressure drop, particle/droplet distributions, mixing metrics, and heat‐transfer performance to guide modelling choices and design decisions. Abstract Static mixers enable compact and low‐energy intensification.

Effects of partial shear connection on composite steel-concrete beam behaviour under combined flexure and torsion

open access: yes, 2006
Acceptable methods of ultimate load analysis and design for composite steel-concrete beams are readily available. However for the case when a beam is curved in plan under vertical loading or for edge beam, it is subjected to combined flexure and torsion.

Challenges and Pitfalls to Diagnosing NUTM1‐Rearranged Neoplasia of the Pancreas by Cytology and Ancillary Studies

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fine‐needle aspiration cytology specimens are frequently utilized for ancillary studies to identify diagnostic and prognostic information. This case highlights diagnostic pitfalls and challenges in diagnosing NUTM1‐rearranged neoplasia on pancreatic cytology.

Uniaxial compressive strength prediction and ratio parameter optimization of titanium tailings composite backfill materials using intelligent hybrid models

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on the 90 datasets, ERT and four optimization algorithms were used to build four hybrid models to predict the UCS of the backfill body. The SMA‐ERT model was the most effective model, and it can reliably guide the design of the backfill ratio parameters. Abstract This study analyzed the feasibility of using titanium (Ti) tailings as a backfilling

Behaviour and design of composite steel-concrete beams under combined actions

open access: yes, 2006
This paper considers the study of composite steel-concrete beams under combined actions. The behaviour of these members in pure flexure, and under the combined action of flexure and shear is generally well understood. However, less well understood is the
