Investigations on small angle scattering with neutrons
L'application des neutrons très lents à la diffraction aux petits angles des réseaux déformés de longue période ou de grandes dimensions, offre des avantages par rapport à la diffraction des rayons X, proprement dite : — l'élimination de la double diffraction de Bragg.

Small-Angle Neutron Scattering of RNA–Protein Complexes [PDF]
Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) provides structural information on biomacromolecules and their complexes in dilute solutions at the nanometer length scale. The overall dimensions, shapes, and interactions can be probed and compared to information obtained by complementary structural biology techniques such as crystallography, NMR, and EM.

Fermionic condensation in ultracold atoms, nuclear matter and neutron stars [PDF]
We investigate the Bose-Einstein condensation of fermionic pairs in three different superfluid systems: ultracold and dilute atomic gases, bulk neutron matter, and neutron stars. In the case of dilute gases made of fermionic atoms the average distance between atoms is much larger than the effective radius of the inter-atomic potential.

Multiple Scattering Theory for Slow Neutrons (from thermal to ultracold) [PDF]
The general theory of neutron scattering is presented, valid for the whole domain of slow neutrons from thermal to ultracold. Particular attention is given to multiple scattering which is the dominant process for ultracold neutrons (UCN). For thermal and cold neutrons, when the multiple scattering in the target can be neglected, the cross section is ...

SANS-1: Small angle neutron scattering [PDF]
The new small angle scattering instrument SANS-1, jointly operated by the Technische Universität München and GEMS, Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, has completed commissioning and is in regular user service (Gilles et al., 2006). SANS-1 is located at the end of neutron guide NL4a in the Neutron Guide Hall West.

A Background-Free Direction-Sensitive Neutron Detector2 A Background-Free Direction-Sensitive Neutron Detector [PDF]
We show data from a new type of detector that can be used to determine neutron flux, energy distribution, and direction of neutron motion for both fast and thermal neutrons. Many neutron detectors are plagued by large backgrounds from x-rays and gamma rays, and most current neutron detectors lack single-event energy sensitivity or any information on ...

Electron-neutron scattering and transport properties of neutron stars [PDF]
We show that electrons can couple to the neutron excitations in neutron stars and find that this can limit their contribution to the transport properties of dense matter, especially the shear viscosity. The coupling between electrons and neutrons is induced by protons in the core, and by ions in the crust.

Neutron Scattering off One-Neutron Halo Nuclei in Halo Effective Field Theory [PDF]
Neutron scattering off neutron halos can provide important information about the internal structure of nuclei close to the neutron drip line. In this work, we use halo effective field theory to study the $s$-wave scattering of a neutron and the spin-parity $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ one-neutron halo nuclei $^{11}\rm Be$, $^{15}\rm C$, and $^{19}\rm C$ at ...

Small-angle Neutron Scattering
The technique of small-angle neutron scattering is used to study structures of size on the order of 1 nm or larger. This article briefly introduces the technique for crystalline matter, crystalline matter with imperfection, and noncrystalline matter with middle range order and the importance of the technique in materials and life science.

A novel small-angle neutron scattering detector geometry [PDF]
A novel 2π detector geometry for small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) applications is presented and its theoretical performance evaluated. Such a novel geometry is ideally suited for a SANS instrument at the European Spallation Source (ESS). Motivated by the low availability and high price of3He, the new concept utilizes gaseous detectors with10B as ...
