The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multi-outcome longitudinal small area estimation – a case study
A recent paper [Thibaudeau, Slud, and Gottschalck (2017). Modeling log-linear conditional probabilities for estimation in surveys. The Annals of Applied Statistics, 11, 680–697] proposed a ‘hybrid’ method of survey estimation combining coarsely cross ...

Small Area Estimation Using a Spatio-Temporal Linear Mixed Model
In this paper it is proposed a spatio-temporal area level linear mixed model involving spatially correlated and temporally autocorrelated random effects.

Small Area Estimation of Latent Economic Well-being
Small area estimation (SAE) plays a crucial role in the social sciences due to the growing need for reliable and accurate estimates for small domains. In the study of well-being, for example, policy makers need detailed information about the geographical

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Spatial Unit Level Model for Small Area Estimation
This paper approaches the problem of small area estimation in the framework of spatially correlated data. We propose a class of estimators allowing the integration of sample information of a spatial nature.

A novel application of small area estimation in loblolly pine forest inventory
Loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) is one of the most widely planted tree species globally. As the reliability of estimating forest characteristics such as volume, biomass and carbon becomes more important, the necessary resources available for assessment ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Small area estimation of poverty indicators [PDF]
AbstractThe authors propose to estimate nonlinear small area population parameters by using the empirical Bayes (best) method, based on a nested error model. They focus on poverty indicators as particular nonlinear parameters of interest, but the proposed methodology is applicable to general nonlinear parameters.
