Changes of smooth muscle contractile filaments in small bowel atresia

open access: yes, 2012
AIM: To investigate morphological changes of intestinal smooth muscle contractile fibres in small bowel atresia patients. METHODS: Resected small bowel specimens from small bowel atresia patients (n = 12) were divided into three sections (proximal ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

IDD-DETR: Lightweight Multi-Defect Detection Model for Transmission Line Insulators Based on UAV Remote Sensing

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Aiming to address the challenges of excessive model parameters, high computational complexity, strong complex background interference, and inadequate small-target detection found in insulator defect detection when using UAV remote sensing imagery of ...

Observation of Backflow during the Anihilation of Topologocal Defects in Freely Suspended Smectic Films

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Freely suspended films in the smectic C phase are excellent templates for the study of topological defect dynamics. It is well known that, during the annihilation of a pair of disclinations with strengths +/−1, the +1 defect moves faster because it is ...

Test Strategies for Multi-Voltage Designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Reducing the power consumption of digital designs through the use of more than one Vdd value (Multi-Voltage) is known and well practiced. Some manufacturing defects have Vdd-dependency, which implies defects can become active only at certain power supply

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Reconstructions of small scalp defects with step flap

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 2017
Defects of the scalp arise from several aetiologies including trauma, burn, injury, infection, radiation and surgical excision of tumours. Multiple options for reconstruction of scalp defects exist that included primary closure, skin grafts, local flaps, regional and distal free flaps. This was a prospective case-series study, which was carried out in ...

Early postoperative interventional ASD-closure for severe atrial right to left shunt in a neonate with common arterial trunk

open access: yes, 2013
Although closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD II) with an occluding device in the first year of life is not a routine procedure, it is a feasible treatment, even in neonates.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
