Comparative analysis of the hydropower characteristics of a small hydropower plant

"Scientific Bulletin of Politehnica University of Timişoara Transactions on HYDROTECHNICS"
The paper presents the possibility of building a micro-hydro power plant on a given site, a different variant compared to the actually realized/designed situation. The work thus analyses the hydropower characteristics in comparison for the two situations.

Dams for Small Hydropower in Scotland

Smart Dams and Reservoirs, 2018
Over recent years government incentives have led to the development of numerous small hydropower schemes in the Scottish Highlands of which five are described in this paper. The schemes have Francis or Pelton turbines with installed capacities between 0.7 and 2.0 MW with gross heads of up to 220 m. The dams are between 4.7and 13.6 m high and of various

Small hydropower plants in Serbia: Hydropower potential, current state and perspectives

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2013
Abstract The utilization of renewable resources for energy production is a very topical issue in Serbia, both among experts and among the public. Having in mind that hydropower potential is considered the most important renewable resource (31,000 GWh per year) which is only partially exploited (10,000 GWh per year), accent is laid on the ...

Variable speed small hydropower plant

2012 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Power Electronics for Distributed Generation Systems (PEDG), 2012
This paper presents a new concept of a Small Hydropower Plant (SHP) with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). This new solution has a Propeller Turbine (PT) integrated with the PMSG. The turbine operates at variable speed and therefore the generator produces voltages at variable magnitude and frequency.

The potential for small scale hydropower development in the US

Energy Policy, 2009
In an earlier paper (Kosnik, 2008), the potential for small scale hydropower to contribute to US renewable energy supplies, as well as reduce current carbon emissions, was investigated. It was discovered that thousands of viable sites capable of producing significant amounts of hydroelectric power were available throughout the United States.
