Protecting Supply Systems to Mitigate Potential Disaster: A Model to Fortify Capacitated Facilities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Planning to mitigate the impacts of a disaster can be an important activity for both private companies and public agencies. In this paper we consider a supply system that provides needed goods or services to a region that may be the subject of some type ...

DNA Replication Errors Drive Genome‐Wide Small Inverted Triplication Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study provides insight into the dynamic equilibrium mechanism of a novel structural variant, small inverted triplication (SIT), which is generated by misalignment of the 3’ flap generated under DNA replication stress with palindromic sequence. Alternatively, the end sequence may fold back on itself to form an inverted fragment.

Integer programming based search

open access: yes, 2009
When integer programming (IP) models are used in operational situations there is a need to consider the tradeoff between the conflicting goals of solution quality and solution time, since for many problems solving realistic-size instances to a tight ...

Integer Programming Via Modular Representations

open access: yes
Modular representations of the integers are used to identify the successive integer grid points encountered as one varies the objective value of an all-integer programming problem.

Smoothed Analysis of Integer Programming

open access: yes, 2005
We present a probabilistic analysis of integer linear programs (ILPs). More specifically, we study ILPs in a so-called smoothed analysis in which it is assumed that first an adversary specifies the coefficients of an integer program and then (some of ...

An Exact Solution Approach for Portfolio Optimization Problems under Stochastic and Integer Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, we study extensions of the classical Markowitz’ mean-variance portfolio optimization model. First, we consider that the expected asset returns are stochastic by introducing aprobabilistic constraint imposing that the expected return of the

Physics‐Embedded Neural Network: A Novel Approach to Design Polymeric Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Traditional black‐box models for polymer mechanics rely solely on data and lack physical interpretability. This work presents a physics‐embedded neural network (PENN) that integrates constitutive equations into machine learning. The approach ensures reliable stress predictions, provides interpretable parameters, and enables performance‐driven, inverse ...

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Functional Disorder at the Neural Interface: How Disordered Nanostructures Promote Proper Growth and Differentiation in In Vitro Neural Cultures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides a practical guide for neuroengineers to design advanced neural interfaces, embracing and tailoring the concept of functional disorder. By bridging 2D and 3D in vitro models, this work highlights how non‐periodic, spatially heterogeneous, multiscale nanotopography can enable more physiologically relevant platforms for studying neural ...

Exact traveling wave solutions of fractional order Boussinesq-like equations by applying Exp-function method

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
We have computed new exact traveling wave solutions, including complex solutions of fractional order Boussinesq-Like equations, occurring in physical sciences and engineering, by applying Exp-function method. The method is blended with fractional complex
