Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Sustainability of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Caribbean Small Island Developing States

open access: yesWater, 2022
The sustainability of small island developing states (SIDS) of the Caribbean is fragile because of island size and topography, limited resources, population growth, natural disasters, and climate change.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

AOSIS v The World: A Blueprint for the First International Multi-Party Climate Change Case

open access: yesGroningen Journal of International Law, 2021
This article is innovative in providing a Blueprint for bringing the first international multi-party climate change case. The Blueprint allows for AOSIS member states to bring a number of group claims against a Respondent Pool made up of the world’s ...

Sustainability of water resources in Caribbean small island developing states: an overview

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
A key to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is the sustainable provisioning of clean water and sanitation services. The sustainable management of water resources strengthens resilience, protects livelihoods, fosters economic growth, and ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

A circular economy roadmap for African and Indian Ocean developing island states

open access: yesCircular Economy
The concept of a circular economy has gained momentum in recent years and presents potential for African and Indian Ocean islands. Although some businesses and governments have adopted circular economy practices, these efforts are not yet widespread, and

Participatory justice and climate adaptation for water management in Small Island Developing States: a systematic literature review and discussion

open access: yesRegional Environmental Change
As the impacts of climate change increase, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in particular shall face increasingly significant adaptation challenges. Past climate adaptation efforts within SIDS have had limited success.

Climate justice for small island developing states: identifying appropriate international financing mechanisms for loss and damage

open access: yesClimate Policy, 2022
The inclusion of Article 8 in the 2015 Paris Agreement was, in part, an achievement of the advocacy efforts of small island developing states (SIDS) that sought recognition of climate-related loss and damage (L&D) in the United Nations Framework ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...
