Striving for small-signal stability
IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine, 2001In this article, based on Bode's definition of return ratio with respect to a single controlled source, the loop-based two-port algorithm and device-based gain-nulling are proposed for small-signal stability analysis. These two algorithms are complementary in terms of applicability, and they produce accurate stability information for single-loop ...

Small-signal stability analysis of delayed power system stabilizers
2014 Power Systems Computation Conference, 2014This paper presents a stability analysis of power system stabilizers (PSS) for synchronous generators with inclusion of time delays. The paper shows that a time delay in the PSS feedback loop can improve the small-signal stability of a power system if the regulator gain is properly tuned.

Stability in Small Signal Common Base Amplifiers
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers, 2013This paper presents an analytical study of parasitic oscillation in video bandwidth common base amplifiers. We develop a series of progressively more complex small signal equivalent circuits based on the hybrid-π model [1], [2]. These circuits are developed such that the effect of each new parasitic element on circuit performance is evident.

A method for stability analysis of small‐signal microwave amplifiers
International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer‐Aided Engineering, 1998This paper presents a method for analyzing the stability of small-signal microwave amplifiers with any topology. This analysis is performed using the Nyquist criterion and allows detection of the so-called odd-mode instabilities. The method is easily applicable by using commercially available microwave CAD. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

A review on the small signal stability of microgrid
2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia), 2016Small signal stability is the key issue in the operation and control of a microgrid. For the small signal stability of an inverter-based microgrid, existing analysis methods mainly contain eigenvalue analysis using state-space models, impedance analysis based on impedance models and other nonlinear analysis methods.

Generator modeling in the context of small-signal stability
2016 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2016Modal analysis is the well-established method for investigating small-signal stability. Dominant states of a particular oscillatory or monotonous mode can be identified by linearizing the system's differential equations. Since generator oscillation is predominantly influenced by the speed deviation and the rotor angle, whereas other state variables ...

Small-signal stability monitoring using PMU
2014 IEEE International Energy Conference (ENERGYCON), 2014The paper presents results of the research devoted to PMU-based power system small-signal stability monitoring. Proposed method allows tracking in-phase groups of generators and critical generators in the groups by analyzing low-frequency oscillations. Further developed, method is able to identify proximity to power system stability boundary.

Flexible tool for small signal stability analysis
2014 IEEE PES General Meeting | Conference & Exposition, 2014This paper presents the development of a flexible tool for the calculation of the state matrix A of the power system. This program is called SIAM (Sistema Informatico para Analisis Modal — Computational System for Modal Analysis). The state matrix is obtained from the load flow solution data and from the dynamic model parameters employed.

Evaluation of small signal stability of a power system
Australian Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2008In reality, a power system is never in steady-state, as there are persistent fluctuations in load levels with associated adjustments in generation. The growing complexity of power systems, as well as the system exposition to various contingencies, have exacerbated the system's steady-state condition.

Effect of PV and FACTS on Small Signal Stability
2018 20th National Power Systems Conference (NPSC), 2018Renewable Energy sources like Photovoltaic (PV) systems are available in present grids. Under small signal disturbances, the presence of PV affects the stability. In this paper both PV and various Flexible AC Transmission system (FACTS) devices has been added in a standard two area systems for stability studies.
