Small States, Small Problems? [PDF]
Small states have attracted a good deal of research. The authors test whether micro-states are any different from other states in income, growth, and volatility. They find that, controlling for location, smaller states are actually richer than other states in per capita GDP.

Scholarship in international studies has usually tended to focus on the great powers. Yet, studying small state behavior can in fact reveal deep-seated structural changes in the international system and provide significant insights into the management of power asymmetries.

SMALL STATES AND CYBERBOOSTERISM
Geographical Review, 1997As documents become more flexible, richer in multimedia content, and less tethered to paper, the ways in which people collaborate and communicate will become richer and less tied to location. - Bill Gates, The Road Ahead, 1995 States on the world political map are identified by their flags, mottoes, and anthems, all presenting images of the state to ...

Small state diplomacy is typically defined in the context of and sometimes opposition to great power diplomacy. Until the end of the Cold War, small states were typically viewed as rule-takers, not rule-makers, and as security consumers, not security producers, in both the academic literature and in diplomatic practice.

Small Quantum Structures with Small State Spaces
International Journal of Theoretical Physics, 2007The author summarizes and extends results about ``small'' quantum structures with small dimensions of the state space. He bears in mind not only Hilbert and orthomodular lattices, but also orthomodular posets and effect algebras. In order to distinguish between the cases when the single state on a quantum structure has only values \(0\) and \(1\), and ...

Chapter 5 focuses on case studies of small states’ pursuit of their goals in the realm of international security. Small states have long been understood to be particularly limited—even existentially threatened—in the security sphere. This chapter’s cases suggest significant variation in security outcomes for small states.
