Designing “Korean” Kimchi: Speculative Configuration of Distance and Commodity Value in the Chinese Kimchi Industry

open access: yesEconomic Anthropology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the Chinese kimchi industry, manufacturers employ product names, photographs, and logistical strategies to promote their kimchi's “Koreanness.” So, what makes their kimchi “Korean,” and how does its Koreanness formulate kimchi's commodity value?

Pharmacogenetics of follicle‐stimulating hormone action in the male

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Male factor infertility (MFI) is involved in half of the cases of couple infertility. The follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) therapy is considered efficient to improve semen parameters and pregnancy rate in patients with idiopathic MFI, following the lesson learned from hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.

Identification and functional validation of a novel disease‐causing variant in the noncoding region of NYX

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) are a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of disorders, with ~30% of cases remaining genetically unsolved. Complete congenital stationary night blindness (cCSNB) is a subtype of IRD, usually associated with reduced visual acuity, nystagmus and high myopia.

Diagnostic performance of the microRNA‐371a assay in small testicular masses: a real‐world cohort study

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objectives To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Conformité Européenne [CE]‐certified microRNA‐371a‐3p (miR371a) assay in patients undergoing inguinal exploration for small testicular masses of unknown histology in a real‐world setting. Patients and Methods Between March 2023 and March 2024, 60 patients underwent inguinal exploration for ...

The L108I polymorphism in mouse prion protein drives spontaneous disease and enhances transmission of atypical and classical prion strains

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
A single amino acid change (L108I) combined with PrP overexpression drives spontaneous atypical prion formation in mice, enabling also efficient propagation of diverse prion strains. This model allows studying how spontaneous prion diseases arise and provides powerful tools for investigating strain emergence, transmission barriers, and mechanisms ...

Compartmentalisation in cAMP signalling: A phase separation perspective

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cells rely on precise spatiotemporal control of signalling pathways to ensure functional specificity. The compartmentalisation of cyclic AMP (cAMP) and protein kinase A (PKA) signalling enables distinct cellular responses within a crowded cytoplasmic space.

NOL7 Inhibits Ovarian Cancer Progression and Suppresses Angiogenesis by Stabilizing GADD45A to Deactivate STAT3

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
NOL7 acts as a tumor‐suppressor in ovarian cancer. Overexpression of NOL7 up‐regulated GADD45A expression by stabilizing GADD45A mRNA in ovarian cancer cells. ABSTRACT Ovarian cancer is one of the most prevalent gynecologic malignancies worldwide. Dysregulated cell proliferation and angiogenesis are well‐recognized to be involved in the pathogenesis of

Expanding Phenotype of GINS1 Deficiency: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
The authors present a novel case and review of individuals with GINS1 deficiency, causing severe growth restriction and combined immunodeficiency. Only the ninth case of this ultrarare disorder, it highlights the role of these variants in disease, glaucoma as a feature, and the possibility of immunodeficiency without infections in affected individuals.

Alternative Polyadenylation Drives Runaway Pro‐Inflammatory Macrophages in Periodontitis by Enabling Escape From miRNA Repression

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
APA‐Guided Therapeutic miRNA Selection for Periodontitis. ABSTRACT Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease driven by a dysregulated host immune response, in which macrophage‐mediated inflammation shifts from protective to pathological. While monocyte‐derived macrophages (MDMs) are known to adopt a destructive, M1‐like pro‐inflammatory phenotype,
