Neuroimaging in small vessel disease

Hipertensión y Riesgo Vascular, 2023
The objective of this article is to review the literature on neuroimaging in small vessel disease. A review was carried out through the Pubmed search engine, without a filter of years, using terms such as: cerebral small vessel disease; white matter hyperintensity; brain microbleed; WBC. Migraine and small vessel diseases

Neurological Sciences, 2012
It is remarkable that migraine is a prominent part of the phenotype of several genetic vasculopathies affecting small cerebral vessels, including cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy, retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukodystrophy and hereditary infantile hemiparesis, retinal arteriolar ...

The Genetics of Small-Vessel Disease

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2012
Cerebral small-vessel disease (SVD) is a well-known cause of stroke, dementia and death, but its pathogenesis is not yet completely understood. The spectrum of neuroradiological manifestations associated with SVD is wide and may result from chronic and diffuse or acute and focal ischemia (leukoaraiosis and lacunar infarction) as well as from small ...

Vascular Aging and Disease of the Small Vessels

High Blood Pressure & Cardiovascular Prevention, 2019
Cardiovascular events are the consequence of vascular damage at both the macro and microcirculatory level. The relationship between large stiffening artery and microvascular disease may be bidirectional, since wave reflection from microvascular sites could increase systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure, while transmission of increased arterial ...

Cerebral Small Vessel Disease [PDF]

open access: possible, 2014
Small vessel disease is an important frontier in neurology; about 25% of strokes are classified as small vessel, and SVD is the most common cause of vascular cognitive impairment. The risk of developing SVD increases with age, making this a growing concern for countries with aging populations. Despite this, there has been a paucity of information about
