Combining the Pitcher and Lotus Plant: Supericephobic and Superhydrophobic Silicone Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on bench‐top nanomolding of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with optimized silicone oil content, we developed hierarchically structured silicone films by essentially combining the properties of the lotus and pitcher plant; particularly we are able to achieve water contact angle as high as 171° and ice adhesion strength as low as 11.5 kPa (i.e ...

Outstanding 1200 °C Oxidation Resistance in a Novel Multi‐Principal Element Alloy via Lattice Distortion‐Induced Diffusion Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The unique lamellar structure of the eutectic alloy promotes selective oxidation of Al initially, while lattice distortion‐induced diffusion suppression slows oxide growth during steady state. Combining these strategies, a Multi‐Principal Element Alloy with excellent oxidation resistance at 1200℃ was designed.

Output Power Smoothing Control for a Wind Farm Based on the Allocation of Wind Turbines

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
This paper presents a new output power smoothing control strategy for a wind farm based on the allocation of wind turbines. The wind turbines in the wind farm are divided into control wind turbines (CWT) and power wind turbines (PWT), separately.

A review of numerical modelling of multi-scale wind turbines and their environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Global demand for energy continues to increase rapidly, due to economic and population growth, especially for increasing market economies. These lead to challenges and worries about energy security that can increase as more users need more energy ...

In‐Wheel Piezoelectric DC Power Generator With Zero Resistive Torque

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this paper, we present a wheel‐shaped direct‐current piezoelectric generator (DC‐PG) that fundamentally overcomes these constraints by producing phase‐stable DC electricity directly from rolling motion. By embedding this system into suitcase wheels, we demonstrated a fully integrated real‐time location tracking system powered solely by mechanical ...

WIND TURBINES FOR WIND POWER INSTALLATIONS

open access: yesProblems of the Regional Energetics, 2008
The problem of wind turbine choice for wind power stations is examined in this paper. It is shown by comparison of parameters and characteristics of wind turbines, that for existing modes and speeds of wind in territory of Republic of Moldova it is ...

Experimental Vibration Analysis of a Small Scale Vertical Wind Energy System for Residential Use

open access: yesMachines, 2019
In the recent years, distributed energy production has been one of the main research topics about renewable energies. The decentralization of electric production from wind resources raises the issues of reducing the size of generators, from the MW scale ...

Control based power smoothing for aggregated vertical axis wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Recently there has been renewed interest in the potential of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs), particularly, at very large scale of 10 MW or above owing to their structural simplicity.

Learning curves and changing product attributes: the case of wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The heuristic concept of learning curves describes cost reductions as a function of cumulative production. A study of the Liberty shipbuilders suggested that product quality and production scale are other relevant factors that affect costs.
