Timber for small wind turbine blades
Energy for Sustainable Development, 2013Abstract This paper addresses material properties of Douglas fir and Sitka spruce and the development of an accurate and low-cost method to manufacture small wind turbine blades. Fatigue tests performed on Douglas fir and Sitka spruce show that these timbers have excellent fatigue properties for use in small wind turbine blades.

Small wind turbine communication system implementation
2015 International Conference on Smart Grid and Clean Energy Technologies (ICSGCE), 2015This paper presents the research and development of a communication system that allows the information exchange between the nacelle and the tower base reducing cabling costs and complexity. The proposed infrastructure allows data acquisition and system supervision of distinct wind turbines/generators and its electrical conversion systems according to ...

Small Wind Turbine Tower Structural Vibration
Volume 12: Vibration, Acoustics and Wave Propagation, 2012A major barrier to the acceptance of small wind turbines is that they are perceived to be noisy particularly when mounted on monopole towers rather than traditional guy-wired ones. This paper discusses an aspect of noise propagation that has not been studied previously: vibration of the tower.

Modeling of small wind turbine characteristics
2016 IEEE 6th International Conference on Power Systems (ICPS), 2016Small wind turbine driven generators with power rating less than 10 kW have emerged as an important segment for meeting the stand-alone electrical load demand at remote locations. The operating characteristics of the small wind turbines are very different from their megawatt class counterparts as their blades operate at much lower Reynolds number.

The small wind turbine characteristics test
2011 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2011A small wind turbine characteristics test platform is designed and realized. It includes low speed opening wind tunnel, and data acquisition systems. The wind tunnel with 3.5m caliber is designed into direct-action wind tunnel, and its experiment sement is circular section.

Mathematical model of small wind turbines
2014 Ninth International Conference on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER), 2014The paper presents a mathematical model of small wind turbines with a focus on the power flow from wind to electricity. Thus, a tool for supporting the designing process is developed which allows a reliable estimation of energy yield and profitability.

Modal Analyses of Small Wind Turbine
2019This paper is based on the previously described optimisation algorithm applied to a small wind turbine [1]. The considered optimisation procedure, includes static and buckling cases although modal analyses aspect has not been taken under consideration.

Yaw modelling of small wind turbines
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1992Abstract A simple modification to standard blade element modelling is described which addresses flow expansion through the rotor. This modification allows the calculation of rotor moments in yawed flow, which are important to the overall yaw behaviour of the machine.

Small wind turbine furling noise measurement
INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference ProceedingsSmall wind turbine generators (WTG) with power capacities of approximately ten kilowatts (~10 kW) often feature a furling mechanism, triggered when hub-height wind speeds are excessive and present damage risk to the bladed rotor and other components, that rapidly changes the aerodynamics and consequently noise emission character and magnitude.
