Smart Antennas 2.0

2023 17th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2023
Reconfigurable metasurfaces, characterized by electromagnetic properties that can be controlled in both space and time, allow conceiving a new generation of smart antennas (Smart Antennas 2.0), whose intelligence is brought by the physical layer rather than by the connected signal processing modules, as it happens for conventional smart antennas.

Smart Antenna Techniques

2022

Smart antenna system

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Recent years the application of free-space laser communication system is become more important.A smart antenna system combines multiple antenna elements with a signalprocessing capability to optimize its radiation and/or reception pattern automatically in response to the signal environment.

Wireless LAN sensing with smart antennas

2022 16th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2022
The paper targets the problem of human motion detection using Wireless Local Area Network devices (WiFi) equipped with pattern reconfigurable antennas. Motion sensing is obtained by monitoring the body-induced alterations of the ambient WiFi signals originated from smart antennas supporting the beam-steering technology, thus allowing to channelize the ...

Analog Smart Antennas

2004
Analog smart antennas are based on RF analog variable circuit devices controlled with an adaptive criterion and an optimizer algorithm. They are expected to offer dramatically low power consumption and low fabrication cost in smart antennas, especially for battery-operated personal wireless devices.

Smart antenna - phase controlled linear antenna array

2007 19th International Conference on Applied Electromagnetics and Communications, 2007
Our aim is to develop a microwave (X-band) antenna whose radiation pattern is electronically controlled. The radiation pattern of regular antennas is determined by the Fourier-transform of the phase and amplitude distribution on the antenna aperture. This radiation pattern is mechanically fixed so its alteration is impossible.

Antenna gain for adaptive smart antenna systems

1997 IEEE 47th Vehicular Technology Conference. Technology in Motion, 2002
We study the antenna gain of an adaptive smart antenna system. The motivation for using the smart antenna systems is to increase the antenna gain and to extend the coverage of the system. Unlike traditional antennas whose gain is fixed, the gain of smart antenna systems depends on the signal processing algorithms used, the signal-to-noise ratio, and ...
