Tire tread deformation sensor and energy harvester development for smart-tire applications

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
Pneumatic tires are critical components in mobile systems that are widely used in our lives for passenger and goods transportation. Wheel/ground interactions in these systems play an extremely important role for not only system design and efficiency but also safe operation.

A "smart tire" system for tire/road friction estimation

ASME 2008 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, Parts A and B, 2008
In this paper, we present the development of a tire deformation sensing system that can provide the critical information for estimation of tire/road interaction for mobile robots and vehicles. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based sensor is designed and fabricated to embed on the inner tread surface to measure the rubber tread deformation.

Measurement of the three-directional contact force using a smart tire with a force sensor

Vehicle System Dynamics
While designing tire performance, understanding the relationship between the tire belt or tread rubber and the road surface is crucial, as represented by the cornering performance and wear characteristics. To survey this relationship, the force generated
